Triedtotellya has had his last start before the upcoming Inter Dominion series in Brisbane.
His most recent effort was in Launceston on Sunday night, where he claimed the $20,000 Ladbrokes Launceston Mile (1680m) when sent out as the $1.24 favourite.
From a second-row draw, trainer-driver Rohan Hillier was able to push through the field in the early stages to lob in the one-one.
Hillier produced the pacer three-wide at the 400m, and the six-year-old gelded son of Well Said powered away to score by 8.8m over Magic Joe ($101) and Sabine ($51) in 1:55.3s.
“After he ended up in the one-one, it was his race to lose, but I thought he hit the line pretty good, actually, for him,” said Hillier.
“He’ll chase all day, but once he gets to the front, he can knock off a bit, and he didn’t.
It was the first start back from a Western Australian campaign where nothing went right when he arrived, forcing him to miss the Nullarbor, but he finished midfield in the Fremantle Cup in what became a one-start preparation.
The first set of rankings sees Triedtotellya ranked 23rd, inside the 36 cut-off for the heats, with a further five sets of rankings to be released before the first round of heats on 4 July.
“He’ll go to the paddock now for a little while and just freshen up, and then we’ll go to Brisbane.
“He was going around nearly every week last year to try to get his ranking up, and in the end, he was just a tired horse.
“It couldn’t work out any better this year, as he needs to have a little break now.”
Other horses of note from a Tasmanian perspective through ownership in this year’s series include Max Delight (5), War Dan Buddy (16) and Nyack (30).
