A LUCKLESS first trip away from home hasn’t dampened Brisbane Inter Dominion plans for Tasmania’s best pacer Triedtotellya.
In fact, the gifted gelding may not race again before the first round Inter Dominion heats at Brisbane’s Albion Park on July 4.
Managing owner Braden Howlett confirmed Triedtotellya was headed for a freshen-up after coasting to victory in last Sunday’s Ladbrokes Launceston Mile.
“It was great to see him come home and do that after the big trip to Perth,” he said. “Especially given he’d hardly done much work at all going into it.
“Rohan (Hillier, trainer-driver) was keen for him to have that run and now he’s out for two weeks or so and then back into work for the Inter Dominion.
“Rohan’s always been keen on Brisbane and nothing happened in Perth to deter us.
“It’s all about being part of a great series like the Inter Dominion. We all may never get another good enough to give it a crack.”
Triedtotellya didn’t handle the long trip to Perth and was scratched from his major target, the $1.25 million Nullarbor won by Max Delight.
He recovered well enough to contest the Group 1 Fremantle Cup a week later on April 24, but hit the line full of running and nowhere to go in seventh spot.
“We didn’t really learn anything from the run, other than he’s good enough to be competitive with those good horses,” Howlett said.
“He ran home in 54sec with the plugs still in.”
Triedtotellya cruised to an 8.8m win last Sunday to take his record to 20 wins and five placings from just 28 starts.
“Rohan is keen to get him up to Brisbane to settle in a couple of weeks before the series starts, but not to race,” Howlett said.
“The horse absolutely flies fresh, so it’s very likely he will go straight into the first round of heats without a lead-up run.
“Hopefully that means he’ll be peaking by final time with the two heat runs under his belt.”
