Harness Racing SA (HRSA) is the governing body for Harness Racing in South Australia. HRSA’s role is to promote, facilitate and develop harness racing by supporting our people, growing participation, embracing innovation and safeguarding animal welfare and industry integrity.

HRSA is offering an opportunity for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join our team as a Casual Raceday Starter.
As a Raceday Starter, you'll work closely with stewards, race officials, and participants to ensure the safe and timely start of each race. Whether you're passionate about racing or simply enjoy working outdoors in a dynamic environment, this role offers a unique way to contribute to one of the most thrilling aspects of the sport.
This casual position is perfect for someone looking for flexible, event-based work – including weekday and weekend race meetings – with all necessary training provided. It’s ideal for individuals who thrive in high-pressure situations, enjoy working with animals, and value teamwork and integrity.
Key accountabilities include:
- Efficiently and effectively start both mobile and standing start races, in accordance with HRSA starting guidelines.
- Support the conduct of race meetings to ensure fairness, safety and compliance with Harness Racing Rules.
- Contribute to the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of starting procedures and policies.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and fairness in all interactions, upholding the HRSA Code of Conduct.
About you
Key skills, experience, qualifications, and attributes. The successful applicant will demonstrate the following skills/experience/qualifications/attributes:
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively start harness races, including both mobile and standing start races, in accordance with HRSA rules and procedures.
- Current motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the harness racing industry and its operational environment.
- Practical and theoretical equine knowledge, with an understanding of standardbred horses and harness gear.
