Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) conducts the commercial and regulatory functions of the harness racing industry in NSW. Operating under the Harness Racing Act 2009, HRNSW is chartered by the State Government to operate autonomously to manage the strategic and commercial development of harness racing in NSW as a not-for-profit corporate body.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Regulatory Veterinarian, the full-time position of Regulatory Veterinarian will be responsible for:

 

  • Providing regulatory veterinary services at race meetings.
  • Providing oversight and supervision of the sample collection process to ensure compliance with Harness Racing NSW policies and the Australian Harness Rules of Racing.
  • Advising Stipendiary Stewards and industry stakeholders on matters related to horse health, welfare, drug control regulations, and the application of the Rules of Racing.
  • Assisting Stipendiary Stewards and Integrity Investigators in the performance of non-race day duties, including out-of-competition testing, stable inspections, and welfare investigations.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

 

  • A veterinary degree registrable in New South Wales.
  • Post qualification experience in equine clinical practice with experience in the Standardbred industry being desirable, but not essential.
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and the capacity to make decisions rapidly under pressure.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and equivalent systems to effectively share information and produce accurate, timely reports.
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An ability to work flexible hours (including nights, weekends, and public holidays) and undertake intra-state travel.
  • A current motor vehicle drivers’ licence and the retention of said licence is essential.

This role will be based in the Sydney Metropolitan Area.
