Our Willow will be looking to go one better when she contests the $14,000 Meeker Fillies & Mares Pace (2090m) in Hobart on Sunday night.
The Paul Carlson-trained mare has won three races this season and brings strong recent form into the 2090m event, having finished second in the Leis Fillies and Mares race in Launceston three weeks ago.
On that occasion, Our Willow settled one out and one back before making her move three-wide from the 400m. She loomed late but couldn’t quite pick up the leader Quetzalli, with Calculated Sectionals recording her final 800m in 56.9s.
“I gave her a week off, so she should be right for Sunday. She’s working really well.
“She has been very consistent this season, and she has been working good at home,” said Carlson.
The race is restricted to Tasbred fillies and mares with no more than four lifetime wins, bringing together a mix of lightly raced improvers and more seasoned mares.
Centurian Miss looks one of the key dangers after finishing fourth behind Quetzalli and Our Willow last start, where she was doing her best work late once clear and recorded the quickest last 400m of the race.
Moveslikealady was third in that same Launceston race and is also in the mix, with the open nature of the race reflected by six of the seven runners being quoted in single figures in early indicative markets.
Carlson also prepares Rock Amour in the opening race, and the gelding will start from the pole draw in the 50 to 56 rating event over 1609m.
“He is actually good too, he pulled up well from his last run,” Carlson said of Rock Amour.
“He will either lead or sit behind the leader.
The seven-race card commences at 16:09 for the twilight program and will be telecast on Sky Racing 1 and Tasracing Live.
