Former interstate pacer Soho Tiger Lily ($11) remains undefeated in two Tasmanian starts, after claiming a No More Than One Lifetime Win event over 1680m in Launceston on Friday night.
The three-year-old daughter of Soho Tribeca produced brilliant gate speed to lead from barrier seven for a 3 1/2m win over Twilight Storm ($6) and Phlow Jo ($7.50) in a mile rate of 1:57.7s.
Soho Tiger Lily had three starts across Victoria and New South Wales before arriving in Tasmania.
“Her gate speed was one of the reasons I bought her. After looking at the videos and the three starts she had, I saw that she had a lot of gate speed,” said trainer-owner Wayne Yole.
“Being a maiden when I purchased her with a lot of gate speed, I thought I couldn’t go wrong bringing her here.
“She proved that tonight. To lead from seven was a pretty big effort.
“Dylan (Ford, driver) came back and said she did a few things wrong. Once we get that sorted, she should turn into a nice mare.”
The win was the first leg of a training treble for Yole, with recent arrival Go The Red ($2.80 fav) scoring first-up in his care, recording a 6.3m win in a National Rating 61 to 65 event over 2200m.
The six-year-old gelded son of Gotta Go Cullect had won 10 races prior in his racing career, with his most recent racing being at Saturday night level at Albion Park, including a win three starts ago in 1:54.4s.
“He is a nice horse, and he was winning at Albion Park on a Saturday night and doing the work too, so that’s why I was confident to go around and sit outside them and let him do his own thing,” said driver Mark Yole.
Mark was also in the sulky for the win of eight-year-old gelding Chamonix ($6.00), who was also first-up from Queensland in the 50 to 54 Rating event.
The pacer settled back in the field and raced three-wide over the final 700m, and got up in the final few strides.
“He is very big, and he has got a lot to learn,” Mark said.
