VENUE: Stawell
DATE: 01/06/26
Race 1:
OVERVIEW: SPARKIE DEVINE (2) is a debutante for trainer Ashley Ainsworth, which led throughout to comfortably win a Maryborough trial over ITZ CLASSIC GOLD (1) last weekend. He strikes a suitable assignment first up and should go well. MAORIS AVENGER (3) settled three back on the markers and broke stride on the home turn when she recovered for a distant third at Horsham last outing. She wasn’t beaten by far when fifth at Terang prior and is drawn to run a good race here. ARIVADERCHI (5) is a Maiden from 35 attempts but his second placed effort after beginning slowly at Bendigo last outing was encouraging so he is not without a chance. DELIGHT REYNA (6) is a 2yo trotter making her debut against older horses. She followed a distant third at a Melton trial effort with a victory at Bacchus Marsh in slow time. She is widely drawn but must be kept safe.
SELECTIONS: SPARKIE DEVINE (2), MAORIS AVENGER (3), ARIVADERCHI (5), DELIGHTFUL REYNA (6)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (5) raced without cover throughout, hit the lead at the 300m and peaked late when a close third behind Very Tempting at Melton last outing. He has improved with every start since resuming and is ready to break through for a win. SMOKIN STREPO (2) began slowly from the pole position and ended up being ninth on the markers before running home well out wide late when seventh behind the handy pacer Le Cardinal at Terang. He ran into a distant second at Mount Gambier prior and is worth a ticket each way. STELLAR QUEEN (1) was caught wide early and had to restrain to a rearward position so she didn’t have much luck at Melton last outing. She was placed against similar grade at Stawell on April 03 and is drawn to go well again. DOCTOR GO JOH (7) settled midfield, came out four horses wide at the 300m and finished off well for third at Terang. He has a tough draw to overcome but is racing well enough to figure in the finish.
BACK: DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (5) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (5), SMOKIN STREPO (2), STELLAR QUEEN (1), DOCTOR GO JOH (7)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: NO EMOTION (9) settled down in last position and made a long run out three horses wide from the 900m mark when a big winner at Mildura last outing. This is a field of more depth but he should prove hard to beat again. EMJAY JAZZ (7) was caught wide early, progressed forward to find the lead at the bell and scored in a mile of 1.58.1 at Cranbourne last outing. She has a tough draw to overcome but she is racing well and should give another bold showing. MARGARITARI (8) ran a sharp race at Ouyen, where she finished off nicely from the home turn. She had every chance at her latest Horsham second but this is a suitable assignment and she is worth a ticket each way. WOW YOU CAN DANCE (4) was an impressive winner at Bendigo last outing and has claims along with REMARLI (5) and FIVE CENT (6).
SELECTIONS: NO EMOTION (9), EMJAY JAZZ (7), MARGARITARI (8), REMARLI (5)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: MATTYO (5) has performed strongly in each of his runs since resuming and is nearing a win. He began quickly to lead, copped pressure mid-race and eventually took cover at the 1600m when second behind Fremarks Peggy at Horsham last outing. AI SEDHAI (9) is a tough type and should prove hard to beat. She raced without cover throughout and was too strong in the run to the finish when she scored at Maryborough last outing. SONARMI JOH (10) has commenced from the very tough handicap of 40m at his past two attempts and will appreciate moving forward 10m for this assignment. He finished off well for third behind Sister Molly and Kamaran in a stronger race at Terang on May 18. BROWN EYED KATE (1) and NEDZA THRILLER (7) are both fast beginners from the standing start and cannot be left out of calculations.
BACK: MATTYO (5) – 1 unit (each way)
SELECTIONS: MATTYO (5), AI SEDHAI (9), SONARMI JOH (10), NEDZA THRILLER (7)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: EYESEALITTLE (8) was resuming since contesting Super Series events in November when she led and was run down by the smart pacer Happily at Horsham. She should be fitter from that run and is capable of going one better. ISTHISTHEREALLIFE (2) led throughout and scored comfortably at her debut performance then met a strong field when unplaced from a wide draw at Terang. This race appears to be more suitable and she should give a bold showing. HUNGRY HOGARTH (6) raced fiercely in mid-field and sustained a long run out three horses wide from the 600m mark when he scored at Mildura last outing. He is more versatile than most in this field so he is worth an investment. ROBLEN RANGER (2) is a fast beginner and boasts a good record at Stawell. He has claims along with HUXHAM CHUBB (5), KEAYANG HUNGRY (7) and YANKEE MOJOH (9).
BACK: EYESEALITTLE (8) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: EYESEALITTLE (8), ISTHISTHEREALLIFE (2), HUNGRY HOGARTH (6), KEAYANG HUNGRY (7)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: MISSMALACHITE (6) led out then took cover when third behind the two handy pacers Happily and Eyesealittle at Horsham. She is widely drawn but is racing in peak form and should make her presence felt. FREAK OUT (4) battled on quite well for fourth at Ballarat on Thursday and he possesses the early speed to gain a prominent position so he should go well. He finished third behind Talisker Skipper at Melton and endured a tough run as favourite behind Pickle It at his next attempt. SHIRALEE (5) sustained a good run when second in the race won by Talisker Skipper at Melton on May 15. She is backing up quickly from her unplaced effort at Ballarat on Thursday night where she endured a tough trip but is not without a chance. ELLI JOH (1) and QUICK DECISION (8) are both worth thought from their inside draw.
BACK: MISSMALACHITE (6) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: MISSMALACHITE (6), FREAK OUT (4), SHIRALEE (5), ELLI JOH (1)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: JUST LIKE NUGGET (5) is backing up quickly from his handy finishing fourth at Ballarat on Thursday night. His overall form has been strong with his only blemish at his past five attempts being when he dragged a flat tyre so he deserves to break through for a win. JANSEN (4) possesses early speed and is drawn to be prominent throughout. He attempted to lead throughout when third at Kilmore and ran a creditable fourth at the Bendigo trials on Monday night. MANOFMOYREISK (3) is a debutante for trainer Ashley Ainsworth that finished a distant third at a Maryborough trial last week. He met smart opposition in that trial and the mile rate was a brisk 1.56.8 so he is worth thought under these conditions. RUBYS REASON (7) is a 2yo taking on older horses but ran a game third at Melton last time out. She is worth thought in multiple combinations along with THELONGROADOFHOPE (9) and WATCH HIM DANCE (11).
BACK: JUST LIKE NUGGET (5) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: JUST LIKE NUGGET (5), JANSEN (4), MANOFMOYREISK (3), RUBYS REASON (7)
