Father and son duo Steven and Brodie Davis dominated Friday night’s meeting in Launceston, combining for a treble on the eight-race card.
Rocky Stride ($15) got the night off to a winning start for the pair, recording a 1.5m win in the opening race of the night, a No More Than Five Lifetime Win race over 1680m.
The three-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven gelding settled three-back on the pegs before finding clear racing room turning for home, to go on and score in 1:56.6s.
“He was good. We had the run of the race, and we didn’t have to do much until we straightened.
“The way he worked probably a fortnight ago, he was well and truly going to be up to it, just whether he was half a run short,” said Brodie about the win.
Six-year-old Huntsville mare Centurian Miss ($8.50) claimed her fourth win of the season, claiming a National Rating 58 to 63 event over 1680m.
The mare settled one-out and two-back before finding clear room in the home straight to win in 1:57.3s, with the driver happy with the mare’s manners this week.
“She didn’t settle last week. But did everything right this week.
“She got out at the 150 (metres), and she just had to run up the straight,” said Brodie.
Steven and Brodie’s last leg of their treble was completed when the Maxfield Standardbreds-owned and bred Fancy Another ($2.40 fav) led all the way in a No More Than One Lifetime Win event over 2200m at the 27th career start for the daughter of Lather Up.
“The only thing she had to do was go around. As long as she didn’t cop too much pressure, I thought she would have been too good,” said the driver.
While Brodie was the dominant driver at the meeting, landing a winning treble, his aunt, Hannah Van Dongen, also added to the family haul with a driving double of her own.
Van Dongen’s wins came aboard the Wayne Yole-trained duo Gee Young ($14) and Lalibela ($14).
Charlie Castles missed the meeting while requiring medical treatment, but he tasted success as a trainer with the win of Cee Tee Chelsea ($1.80 fav), with Rohan Hillier receiving the late call-up to partner the six-year-old mare.
Quetzalli ($1.30 fav) justified her short quote to record her second career win for trainer-driver Todd Rattray, while the Kent Rattray-trained Karalta Artemis ($10) returned to the winners’ list to win the night’s final race with John Walters in the sulky.
