Talented three-year-old pacer Medina will be out to take his record to four wins from as many starts when he lines up in the Woodlands Stud – Your Genetic Edge Pace (1609m) in Hobart on Friday night.

Trained by Victoria’s Freddy Taiba, the Sweet Lou colt has won his last two races in Hobart, with his most recent victory on 29 June.

Travelling stable representative Ben Said explained connections opted to miss the recent Tasmanian Derby, but indicated the pacer may head back across Bass Strait to contest the Victorian Derby next month.

“He wasn’t forward enough to tackle the Tasmanian Derby. The timing wasn’t right this time in. He is right to go on Friday over the mile,” explained Said.

“He had that bit of a break, and I think the penny has dropped a bit with him. He has been a bit green but is a natural pacer.

“He has got brilliant gate speed, and I expect Dylan (Ford) will use that (on Friday).

“All going well on Friday night, he may have another run down here, and then he may go back for the Victorian Derby,” said the stable rep.

Said has worked in the thoroughbred code with Shea Eden at Cranbourne, and then went on to work for Lloyd Williams and Patrick Payne, before going on to be a thoroughbred form analyst, before turning his hand to harness racing and taking on a role with trainer Fred Taiba.

But he soon could be training in his own right in Tasmania.

“I have applied for my trainer’s license, and I’m going through that process. I hope to train five or six down here.

“I enjoy the racing, the people and the lifestyle down here.

Friday’s six-race card commences at 17:38.
