Lather Up filly Stolen One ($2.80 fav) proved too tough for her rivals to win the second heat of the Fehlbergs Produce Two Year Old Fillies Sweepstakes (1609m) at Hobart’s Ladbrokes Park Elwick on Sunday afternoon.
The Jordan Chibnall-trained and driven pacer was restrained off the gate in the early stages, but after a couple of changes in the early stages, the filly soon ended up racing outside the leader from the 1100m point.
Stolen One took over entering the home straight and proved too tough for her rivals, scoring by 3m over Vinjetta ($26) and Estella Herge ($1.50 fav).
The mile trip was run in 1:56.7s, only 0.2s outside the two-year-old fillies age track record set by Ravishing Ruby in July 2025.
Despite appearing to switch off after hitting the front in the straight, Chibnall said the filly still had something in reserve.
“She was sort of waiting for them all the way up the straight, and she kicked away again when that horse got close to her just after the line.
“So I’ll just change a bit gear and see how we go,” said Chibnall.
The trainer-driver is pleased with how Stolen One is progressing ahead of next Sunday’s Final, after she finished second to Go Diva in the opening heat of the series.
“I’m really happy, actually.
“I really don’t want to draw one, but if we can draw better than Go Diva, we’re a big chance,” she said.
In the Fehlbergs Produce Colts and Geldings Sweepstakes Heat Two (1609m), Calzo Sniper ($1.85 fav) proved too strong for his rivals.
The Paul Ashwood-trained pacer was driven by Rohan Hillier, who took the gelded son of Ultimate Sniper straight to the early lead.
The gelding travelled well throughout and kept finding when required late to score by 6.4m over Lotseven ($6), with Clayton ($2.70) a further 10.1m away in third in a mile rate of 1:57.1s.
“He felt a lot better today, and he’ll be right in it with a good draw,” said Hillier.
With Hillier set to jet off on another holiday, he confirmed Chibnall will take the reins in the Final.
The Finals of both divisions of the Sweepstakes will be held at Ladbrokes Park Elwick, on 16 August, with the afternoon meeting also featuring the Tasmanian Derby, Tasmanian Oaks and Metropolitan Cup.
Driving honours on Sunday’s program went to Jack Laugher, who took a break from his busy Victorian schedule to compete at the meeting.
He won the opening race aboard My Fatal Charm ($2.25 fav), who is prepared by his father Michael, before partnering the Wayne Yole-trained Can Feel The Fury ($5.50).
The win of Can Feel The Fury completed a training double for the Yole stable, with Go The Red ($4.60) earlier in the afternoon.
