Loucasso after winning the 2025 Protostar
ONE of Australia’s most exciting pacers Loucasso will return to the racetrack tomorrow (Saturday) night at Menangle.
No, it’s not quite a race yet, but new trainer-driver Seaton Grima says that won’t be far away.
“I’m just taking him for a workout between races as the next step towards his return,” Grima said.
“He’s coming along really well and this workout will tell me if he’s ready for a trial, which could be as early as next week.
“It’s so exciting to have a horse like him in the stable. He just gives you the most amazing feel.”
Loucasso boasts seven wins and a second from just nine starts, but hasn’t raced since winning the Group 2 Breeders Crown 2YO final by half the straight at Melton on December 13, last year.
He had previously won the Group 1 Protostar at Albion Park.
Loucasso was trained by Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin then and actually had two trials for them earlier this year for wins at Ballarat and Melton.
But niggling issues, and a longer term focus on the $1.5 million TAB Eureka, meant he didn’t make it to the races.
Loucasso left the Stewart/Tonkin barn in early May and, after a brief stint with Luke McCarthy, owners Summit Bloodstock and Aaron Bain Racing settled on Grima to guide him towards the TAB Eureka on November 21.
