Race 1:

OVERVIEW: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (3) came out three horses wide from midfield at the 600m and missed out narrowly when second behind Caulonia Bella at Mildura last outing. He is nicely drawn and has been placed in ten of his eighteen starts for the season so he must be included amongst the leading chances. LOVE TO DEAL (2) has won six races at Mildura previously and has been performing well in South Australia over the past few weeks. His third placed effort in a slick mile rate of 1.56.3 two starts ago is a good form pointer to this event. OUR MASTER PLAY (4) led throughout at a Mildura victory on May 22. He has been safely held in three starts since but is a winning chance if he puts his best foot forward. THE AFRICAN QUEEN (5) impressed at her first up victory on May 10 and hasn’t been far away at her past three unplaced performances. She should find the line nicely if she gains the right trail forward.

SELECTIONS: APOLOGY ACCEPTED (3), LOVE TO DEAL (2), OUR MASTER PLAY (4), THE AFRICAN QUEEN (5)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (7) settled three back on the markers, gained an inside run and drove through late to score last week. This is a very similar field and he should prove hard to beat again. LAST TANGO IN PARIS (4) finished off well in a slick final half of 55.4 seconds when a game third behind All Da Rage at Globe Derby last outing. He led throughout at a recent Gawler victory and should make his presence felt on his Mildura debut. DALLAS MIKI (5) raced without cover throughout and battled into seventh last week. His efforts prior to his Melton trip two runs ago were very good and he recorded a sizzling mile rate of 1.56.0 at Mildura on May 15 so he is worth another chance. POWERSOFPERSUASION (6) worked forward to find the lead when he won under similar conditions three starts ago. He is poorly drawn but cannot be left out of calculations.

SELECTIONS: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (7), LAST TANGO IN PARIS (4), DALLAS MIKI (5), POWERSOFPERSUASION (6)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: WATCH IT HAPPEN (3) makes his debut for astute mentor Alex Ashwood and strikes a suitable assignment for his Mildura debut. He led out then took cover with a lap remaining when second in a mile rate of 1.58.4 (2150m) three starts ago and that effort would be more than competitive against this line up. HESASTAR (5) progressed forward from a wide draw to race without cover and battled on well for second at Mildura last outing. He is likely to end up enduring a similar run here but he is not without a chance. DAYLIGHT (8) disappointed after receiving the perfect trip when fifth last week but she finished off quickly from three back on the markers in a genuinely run event when she scored prior. She should receive an economical trip from her trailing draw and is worth another chance. PUNTO CALIENTE (6) has been placed in three of his past four starts under similar conditions and is worth thought again despite the wide draw.

BACK: WATCH IT HAPPEN (3) – 3 units (win)

SELECTIONS: WATCH IT HAPPEN (3), HESASTAR (5), DAYLIGHT (8), PUNTO CALIENTE (6)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (5) has a very similar form line to his stable mate Watch In Happen, which is competing in race three, and worked to the front when he defeated that pacer at Bendigo on May 27 so the third race today might be a good clue to what will happen in this event. He competed twice on the same day at Warragul, where fifth in a heat of the Cup then eighth in the Final and he has won a race at Mildura previously. BIG BAD CHAD (6) pushed forward to race without cover, kept the pressure on throughout and did well for third at Mildura on June 05. He is likely to press forward at the start again and is not without a chance. SNEAKY PHILTRA (8) broke stride at the start and recovered to finish fourth when resuming then raced without cover throughout at her latest seventh. She should be getting fitter and is capable of showing improvement from her trailing draw. EGBERT (3) hasn’t raced since December but he is a fast beginner and should be prominent throughout from his good draw.

BACK: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (5) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (5), BIG BAD CHAD (6), SNEAKY PHILTRA (8), EGBERT (3)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: HEZ SO ROYAL (7) couldn’t have drawn worse for his return to racing but he is a quality South Australian trained 3yo, which won both the Golden Nursery Pace and the Southern Cross series last season. He boasts an imposing record and has won two trials recently so he should prove hard to beat with normal luck in running. NEVS DREAM (6) faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but she did compete against the open class when third behind Tough Aint Enough last week so she cannot be left out of calculations. She has won seven races at Mildura this season and possesses brilliant early pace. MANINKY MOONSHINE (2) settled in the second half of the field and was doing his best work late when fifth in a very quick mile of 1.53.9 at Cranbourne last outing. He is yet to win in ten starts for the season but his last run was encouraging. MAGGACIS (5) continues to race in good form and is very versatile. He is widely drawn but should run his usual honest race. AVOCA BLUES (4) was beaten by a long way last week but he is a short course specialist and the drop back in distance is an advantage this afternoon.

SELECTIONS: HEZ SO ROYAL (7), NEVS DREAM (6), MANINKY MOONSHINE (2), MAGGACIS (5)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: SWEET LUCY LOU (6) was confidently supported and finished off strongly from midfield on the markers when a close second behind Winshemay at Mildura last week. She has been runner up at her past three attempts and is capable of going one better now. SANTA CASA LEVI (4) was beaten by a long way at her latest sixth but her first three attempts were good enough to be competitive here. She raced without cover throughout and finished third as the popular elect in a race of similar standard on May 29. MAXI ANGEL (2) was always in a rearward position and struck trouble late when eighth last week. He moves to the front line now and his form prior was okay so a forward showing is expected. STARZZZOFTERRY (8) has been placed three of his past four starts. He dropped out after enduring a tough run last week but finished well from off the speed prior and should be suited by the trailing draw.

BACK: SWEET LUCY LOU (6) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: SWEET LUCY LOU (6), SANTA CASA LEVI (4), MAXI ANGEL (2)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: KYORETSU (4) led throughout and recorded a career best mile rate of 1.56.3 at Melton on May 01 then followed with a second behind Another Woods at Geelong. He wasn’t beaten by far last outing and has since been transferred to trainer Naomi Kerr. This race appears to be easier and a bold showing is expected first up. G B BRAVE (6) is stepping up in class but he continues to impress at Mildura and sustained a long run out very wide on the track when a big winner over Rubbleonthedouble last week. He is versatile and should run his usual honest race. TORQUE INTHEUSA (5) performed well below expectations and was stood down to trial at Globe Derby last outing. She has since finished fourth at a Globe Derby trial effort and her overall form is sound so she is worth another chance. SHES POPPY (1) is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern and finished off nicely for second behind Only Once Bitten last outing so she rates as a value hope.

SELECTIONS: KYORETSU (4), G B BRAVE (6), TORQUE INTHEUSA (5), SHES POPPY (1)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: JUST INCREDIBLE (12) is another newcomer for the Alex Ashwood stable on the program that is likely to be strongly fancied. He has been racing against stronger opposition recently and parked without cover throughout when unplaced in a slick mile rate of 1.54.3 at Melton last outing so an improved showing is expected. NO EMOTION (9) won twice in succession prior to working forward to find the lead at the bell and sustaining a flat tyre when sixth at Charlton. He had excuses last outing and his overall form is sound so he looms as one of the leading chances. LOSEASHOE (3) has drawn on the second line and has been safely held at his past three starts but the last time he started from the front row, he was very heavily supported, charged to the lead from a wide draw and dominated his rivals. He will take catching if he can find the lead again here. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (2) ran a cheeky race after finding the lead last week and is worth thought along with ROCKNROLL LENNY (5).

BACK: JUST INCREDIBLE (12) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: JUST INCREDIBLE (12), NO EMOTION (9), LOSEASHOE (3), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (2)
