Hunter Valley driver Jorja Daskalovski achieved a significant achievement in at Newcastle last Friday night when the 18-year-old landed her first treble.
Born and raised in the region where she was able to learn her craft, first by regularly driving in trials at Newcastle, Daskalovski moved to Sydney to accept a full-time position at the Morris family’s Lucky Lodge at Menangle Park.
It has only been five months since Daskalovski has been licensed to drive in races and her career is panning out perfectly.
To date she has driven in more than 120 races, recording 15 wins and 24 placings, testament to how popular she has become with owners and trainers who are backing her ability.
Another feather in Daskalovski’s cap is the fact that all three winners last Friday were prepared by different trainers.
“Friday was certainly the best night I have had in the gig to date, and to do it at Newcastle with my family there was pretty cool,” said Daskalovski.
“I am so grateful to the trainers and connections who provided those winners, showing faith in me to get the job done.
“All three horses were turned out in perfect order and that made my job so much easier knowing that they were at their best on the night.
“I feel that I am very fortunate to be in the position that I am in, Kerry and Robbie (Morris) are such great people and have taught me so much, and they afford me plenty of opportunities to drive their horses.
“Also, by having a connection with them it has opened up other avenues for me to gain drives which I really appreciate.”
Daskalovski will be back in action at Penrith on Thursday with four drives - three for KerryAnn and one for local trainer Troy Williams.
Coming off a handy third last time out when up in grade at Newcastle, The Metal Flyer looks well placed from gate two in race three.
The gelding has benefitted from Daskalovski’s five-point concession claim, giving the bold front running type the opportunity to do just that and if he is able to lead and dictate terms over the 1720 metre sprint course.
