CANADIAN owner Mike Tanev is selling a rare opportunity with his family of superstar mares.
Tanev, a huge supporter of Australian racing, is bundling his siblings Aardies Express and Aardie B Miki with their dam Tatijana Bromac and his other superstar mare Aardiebytheseaside for sale as a package.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to buy an incredible family to breed from,” he said. “I really want someone in Australia to benefit from breeding champions.”
Tatijana Bromac has had just four foals to race for a combined 71 wins and almost $1.6 million in earnings. She has a foal on the ground by Captaintreacherous.
Aardies Express, winner of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile and among 20 wins, banked $498,134. She is in foal to Captaintreacherous.
Aardie B Miki (15 wins and $632,851) is still racing in the US, while Aardiebytheseaside (22 wins, $629,962) is back in work with top WA trainers Greg and Skye Bond.
“Aardie B Miki will return to Australia mid-year with a view to breeding and this will probably be Aardiebytheseaside’s last racing season,” Tanev said.
“My goal is to sell them to one individual sole owner or a bigger breeding operation.
“By doing that, all the relations will stay together and create some real black type foals and, hopefully, future champions.”
Tanev is changing his ownership and racing model.
“I’m 67 this year and want to change things up,” he said. “I’ve often bought horses in NZ, raced them in Australia and then brought them over to North America, but I don’t want to do that any more.
“I want to support Down Under racing more. It’s been great to me.
“I’d rather sell them when the time is right in Australia rather than have them lost to the game and move to North America.
“I’m still strongly involved. I’ve got three horses with Pete (McMullen) and Chantal (Turpin). They’ll be for sale at some stage, too.
“I don’t want to be known as an owner who just races, I think I have a pretty good eye, and that may allow someone else to benefit through my experience and buy horses from me when I’ve finished racing them.”
