Harness Racing Australia advises its State Controlling Bodies and clubs about the protections relating to the word ‘Anzac’ in the lead up to Anzac Day 2026.

On an annual basis, Australians gather at services across the nation and overseas to remember the first Anzacs at Gallipoli and commemorate Australia’s veterans.

This tradition is why the word ‘Anzac’ is protected in Australian culture.

To stop its misuse and reduce its overuse in Australia, the Anzac Regulations broadly state that use of the word ‘Anzac’ in any official or commercial manner requires permission from the Federal Minister for Veterans’ Affairs or the Ministers delegate.

Applications to secure a permit to use the word ‘Anzac’ is free and information is available on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website.
