Applications for slots into Australasia’s richest 2YO harness racing event are now open.

The third running of the $500,000 Protostar – restricted to 10 starters – will take centre stage as the marquee race on July 11, 2026, alongside the Ladbrokes Inter Dominion’s second round of heats.

Slots have again been set at $30,000 (ex GST), with ten available for purchase.

Exclusively for two-year-olds, the $500,000 race will be run over 1660 metres at The Creek throughout the nation’s premier winter carnival, the Queensland Constellations.

The ten slots will be determined via a selection panel made up of members from Racing Queensland, Albion Park Harness Racing Club and industry.

Slot holder applications will be assessed in two categories as follows:

  • Three for Queensland located, individuals, businesses or syndicates; and,
  • Seven for the remaining eligible applicants (including any unsuccessful Queensland located individuals, businesses or syndicates).

The first edition of the event was taken out by Fate Awaits for champion Queensland trainer Grant Dixon, whilst it was a southern victory for master trainer Emma Stewart and two-year-old colt Loucasso in 2025.

Applications close on February 20, 2026 and can be submitted via email to aclarke@racingqueensland.com.au.
