Morris Brown ($3.90) picked up his fifth win of the season when claiming the Fehlbergs Produce Sprint Lane Pace (1609m) in Hobart on Friday night.
Driver Liam Older was able to lead up the one-wide line on the Todd Rattray-trained pacer, before proving too tough for his rivals over the final 250m to score by 3.9m over Soho Tuxedo and Jadez ($26) in the quickest winning mile rate on the program of 1:57.3s.
“He has been going pretty good of late. He probably did a bit too much work out of the gate at the start prior when I drove him, but he didn’t have to do a lot to lob where he did last night, and he found the line alright,” said Rattray.
“Liam has been driving really well since he came back from Victoria, and he is a great worker, so hopefully he can keep it up.”
The pacer has raced very consistently since being purchased by Lachlan Dakin in the middle of 2024, who is taking a break from driving due to his work commitments.
The gelded son of Always B Miki has collected a top-five-placing prize money cheque in 25 of his 43 starts since arriving in the state.
“He has always been around the mark, and he has been a good horse for Lachlan.
Todd’s brother Gareth bookended the program, winning aboard the Paul Carlson-trained Our Willow ($2 fav), and Busload Of Faith ($2.80 fav), who completed a training double for Wayne Yole, who also prepared the Hannah Van Dongen-driven Justify ($4.40).
Trainer Conor Crook and driver Jordan Chibnall made their trip from their Karoola base worth it, returning with a winning double after the wins of Online Model ($3.70) and Far Left Fletch ($11).
Taylor Ford is back in the state with Justlikedave for the Globe Derby Final in Launceston next Saturday night, and she picked up a win with Power Up ($9) for her mother, Tammy Langley.
