It is exceedingly rare to see twodrivers from the one stable bring up a century of winners in the same season.

Yet that feat was achieved last week when Jye Coney joined his best mate Jett Turnbull to doso, astonishingly with four months remaining in the current term.

Both young reinsmen, who recently celebrated their 18th birthdays, have dominated at tracks in the state’s central west this year under the guidance of Jett’s father Nathan.

There is rarely a race meeting goes by in the district where the duo is not going head-to-headand it is not unusual for Nathan to join them in races where he has multiple runners engaged.

Jett was the first to bring up 100 wins for 2025 in June before he went to Queensland for the winter carnival to represent New South Wales in the Australasian Young Drivers series.

Jye headed to Dubbo last Friday sitting on 99 winners and only had to wait until Race 2 to bring up the ton when he was able to score aboard The Accidental One for Mitch Turnbull.

That was the first of a treble for Coney; he later combined with Dubbo trainer James Suttonwhen Barlor Heaven made it three on the bounce while Seven Tee Two was also able to win for Jye and Nathan.

In 2024, Jye notched up 64 winners, but he has truly come of age this year.

“If it had been suggested that I could drive 100 winners in a season this early in my career I would probably have laughed it off,” said Jye.

“I guess it is somewhat of an achievement for both Jett and me to score centuries this early in the season when we are predominantly driving for the one stable.

“I have been so fortunate to have received strong support from outside stables, something I am so grateful for.

“But I would not be in this position if it was not for Turnbull family, especially Carly and Nathan, who were prepared to give me a go.

“I have learned so much from everyone at The Lagoon, it has been such an incredible ride.”

Such is his popularity that Jye will drive in all nine races at Bathurst on Wednesday, his most important assignment being to partner Evelyns Dragon in the Western Districts Derby when the gelding will be chasing his fourth successive win.
