Promising three-year-old filly, and last season’s Tasmanian two-year-old filly of the year, Barbary Tales ($9.50) took her record to four wins from seven starts when claiming a no more than five lifetime win pace (2200m) in Launceston on Friday night.
The three-year-old filly who was taking on the older horses made the most of the pole draw to lead, and proved too slick for her rivals late with Brodie Davis in the sulky, scoring by 9.9m over Nancestiger ($5) and Bettablack Tiger ($2.15 fav) in the quickest winning mile rate of the night, 1:56.3s.
Trainer Steven Davis was rapt with the result, confirming the filly will be aimed at the $20,000 3YO Beautide Prelude in Launceston on 20 July.
“That is her grand final race, and then after that, we will just see what happens,” said Steven.
“She has got as much speed and ability as anything I have ever had, so it’s onwards and upwards.
“She could always get along, but she has been a bit green. She hasn’t had many starts.
“When we broke her in, she just clicked, she was a good pacer, we never put a head check on her, and she races in the bit we put on her after the mouthing gear, so you can’t ask for any more really,” explained the trainer.
The filly is raced by John “Charlie” Huston, and is the first winner to race from the Ponder mare Angkristy, who is also the dam of recent two-year-old winner A Dragon For Joe.
Jordan Chibnall celebrated an early birthday present, driving a winning treble on the program.
She scored aboard Martha Lavinia ($4.40) for visiting Victorian trainer Tayla Fellows, before teaming up with her life partner Conor Crook to win with Sugarpova ($1.55 fav) and Raging On ($1.30 fav).
