Bonne Amour is an impeccably bred mare by Bettors Delight who is ready to start her 4YO campaign – after four 3YO wins last season - and will make a highly commercial broodmare at the end of her race career.
She is one of three quality race mares offered by prominent WA owner Albert Walmsley in the APG Autumn Mixed Sale that starts on Friday, May 23.
The other two mares (Lot 19) Bella Ragazza (1.58.1, $41K) and (Lot 20) Pocket The Change (1.56.8, $78K) are also well performed mares from outstanding families.
Lot 18, lightly-raced mare Bonne Amour (1.57.8, $23K) had a solid debut season, with four wins and six placings from 19 starts and trainer Ryan Bell believes she is on target for a successful 2025 campaign.
“Bonne Amour is a good, honest filly who can deliver more on the racetrack with a change of environment,” Bell said.
“She lacks a bit of high speed but makes up for it in toughness. She can trot as quick as she can pace at times.
“She is ready to race, and I have been nominating her, but her eligible races keep falling over.
“I have stepped up her work this time in and she is a much better horse for it. If she doesn’t sell she should do a good job for Albert this season until breeding season starts.”
Her potential as a broodmare is enormous. She is by world-leading sire Bettors Delight from Mach Three mare Sharing The Love, who is a granddaughter of champion filly Jadah Rose (1.58.2, $465K).
Sharing The Love is a full sister to Pacifico Dream (1.51, $423K) and a half sister to Momentslikethese (1.55.7, $211K).
A filly from Momentslikethese (by Somebeachsomewhere) sold for $220,000 at last month’s Melbourne Nutrien yearling sale.
Mike Howie, from leading WA nursery Copper Lodge, is offering highly credentialed broodmare Dontgetmeruffled (Lot 77), who has already produced WA 3YO APG sales classic runner-up Walsh (1.57.1, $202K) and outstanding open class race mare Nevermindthechaos (1.53.4, $181K).
Dontgetmeruffled is also the dam of highly exciting 2025 2YO winner Little China Girl, who burst onto the scene with a slashing 1.57.5 debut win at Pinjarra in January and was bought by prominent owners Jim and Willie Giumelli soon after.
Dontgetmeruffled has commercial viability - Little China Girl (by Fly Like An Eagle, $5000 service fee) sold for $37,000 at the 2024 APG Yearling Sale.
The Courage Under Fire mare is in foal to boom first season stallion Ride High, who has already produced 2YO sales classic winning filly Delizioso (1.56.9, $101K) from his first crop.
For serious breeding buffs, both Ride High (Scornful) and Dontgetmeruffled (Suzendy) go back to champion U Scott mares on their maternal line and have a wealth champion “old blood stallions” such as Rey de Oro, Jack Potts, Logan Pointer and Wrack in their pedigrees.
Copper Lodge is also selling (Lot 37) well bred Mach Three mare, I Work Out (1.57.7, $25K) in foal to boom sire Captain Crunch in the Autumn online sale.
Buyers looking for a potential bargain should have a close look at (Lot 2) young broodmare Lovely Larnie, a half sister to seven winners, who is being sold with a Renaissance Man filly at foot.
She is offered by Albany breeder Woodanookie Pacing.
Lovely Larnie (by Rocknroll Heaven) was a 3YO winner and is a half sister to WA Golden Slipper winner Aussie Reactor (1.50.6, $616K) and Aussie Delight (1.55.2, $124K).
Her half sister Bootscootingirl has produced Americanbootscoota(1.52, $327K) and Lot Twenty One (1.56.7, $101K).
This is the family of WA 2YO Pearl runner-up Capricorn Cruiser (1.57.6, $$206K) and WA Golden Slipper runner-up Scotlyn Ray (1.57, $127K).
The filly-at-foot’s sire, Renaissance Man, is a much-underrated stallion. He has sired 54 winners from 108 foals of racing age (3YO and older), with stakes of almost $3 million.
