VETERAN horseman Bryan McBride broke a long drought from the winners' circle earlier this week.
Training Giamatti to score at Globe Derby on Monday, McBride registered his first success in more than a decade.
McBride's previous victory was during the 2013/14 season.
In McBride's defence, he did have two breaks from the industry, the first between 2017 and '21, with the comeback only lasting a few months before returning again this season.
"My last winner was Ivanka in 2013, so it has been a long time between drinks," McBride said. "I got a bit browned off with the game, so I took time off, but the bug kept biting me.
"I did work a few in-between but they were not good enough.
"Even Giamatti has been here for a couple of years before I finally raced him five or six weeks ago.
"He hurt his leg just after I bought him, so I put him in a paddock for six months and it has taken a bit of time for him and I to come to an understanding as far as his quirks go.
"He's not wild but big and strong and likes to throw himself around a bit."
Driven by Matthew Harding, Giamatti worked to the lead from barrier four before completing a two-and-a-half metre win from Uptown Miss, with Backpaddockjack a head away third.
The six-year-old rated 2:01.5 over 1800 metres to break his maiden at his sixth start.
"He is no world beater, but is still learning," McBride said. "I think he can be a handy type when he knows what he's doing.
"So for now I will keep racing each week and see how he goes."
