Form Analysis by Bronte Nieuwenburg

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: KAMARAN (6) has been in fantastic form since joining the Peter Manning stable. He has won four of his last six starts, placing in the other two. He’s a talented type and looks a great chance here. Beyond KAMARAN (6), the rest of the field looks quite even. BOUTIKA (5) won impressively at Ararat two starts ago, then followed that with a fourth at Melton last start. If she gets into a good position, she can flash home. APRIL SUN (3) had a tough run last start, covering an extra 35 metres racing wide and being forced to do it tough. He got tired late, but does have a good turn of foot if he gets luck in running. COLTRANE (11) has shown glimpses of great ability, but is not yet the complete package and can get his manners wrong. Last start he looked like looming to win before another runner locked wheels with him. If he trots throughout, he is a winning chance. CALABASAS (10) and FREMARKS PEGGY (7) are also racing well heading into this event.

BACK: KAMARAN (6) – 2.5 units (win)

SELECTIONS: KAMARAN (6), BOUTIKA (5), APRIL SUN (3), COLTRANE (11)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: TOUCHANDGO (4) hit the line well last start at Melton. He finds a suitable race here and, with luck, could get back into the winners’ circle. JUNGLE SPIDER (3) led last start in a similar field to this one and was only narrowly beaten late by 1.1 metres. It was an improved run for him and, if he maps well from barrier three, he is right in this. LAVENGERS BOY (1) is first up here but has good gate speed and should be able to map into a good position. CHARLIE WALKER (9) will appreciate the drop in class. He raced in the breeze last start in a tougher contest, but here he can follow through early and be saved for one run late in an easier race. Also strong respect here for KYVALLEY MISTY (12), her manners are improving every start and she’s working towards a win.

SELECTIONS: TOUCHANDGO (4), JUNGLE SPIDER (3), LAVENGERS BOY (1), CHARLIE WALKER (9)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: CHAMPAGNES (3) is a smart mare when she trots throughout. She has put in some impressive performances over the past 10 months when she gets it all together. She has gate speed, but so do the two horses drawn inside her. ONAWINGANDAPRAYER (1) broke through for a first win since 2023 last start at this track, so comes in with confidence and the right barrier to utilise her gate speed. SNICKERS EXPRESS (10) can often gallop in his races, but when he gets it right, he is a talented trotter. He has the best sectional times in this event from the runs where he has brought the right manners. He needs to trot throughout. SABIHALIL (5) is racing ok, with good sectional times. Looks to be a first four chance here.

SELECTIONS: CHAMPAGNES (3), ONAWINGANDAPRAYER (1), SNICKERS EXPRESS (10), SABIHALIL (5)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: IFYOULOVEMELETMEGO (3) is first up here for Carson Millar, who has a great record with new horses joining his stable. Young gun Ewa Justice takes the reins. She is first up in 87 days, but produced the best sectional times in this field last preparation. CALEDONIAN TERRA (5) raced away to win well last start at Terang after leading. He has good gate speed and the winning confidence, although barrier five makes things a little awkward. GALLICO (10) hasn’t missed a place since joining the McNaulty stable late last year. He is first up since February and has a tricky barrier, but he has the ability. SKYZ ABOVE (1) was a winner at this track at massive odds a few starts ago when mapping behind the leader. From barrier one, she is likely to adopt similar tactics here.

SELECTIONS: IFYOULOVEMELETMEGO (3), CALEDONIAN TERRA (5), GALLICO (10), SKYZ ABOVE (1)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: AFFAMATO (8) won well first up last start. He made a long, wide run from near last to score at the post and will improve from that run. He will just need some luck from the barrier. SHIFFRIN (3) was brilliant winning her first start in the breeze in March. She has had two runs since where she has been a bit unlucky but still performed well. Her gate speed is a bit of an unknown, but she should race well here. JUST INCREDIBLE (6) is a smart horse who probably hasn’t found his best form yet this preparation. He does, however, have the best sectional times in this field. If he is at his best and finds a good position, he is a winning chance. SPORTSBOU (2) has been racing ok and has a good barrier here to capitalise on.

BACK: AFFAMATO (8) – 2.5 units (win)

SELECTIONS: AFFAMATO (8), SHIFFRIN (3), JUST INCREDIBLE (6), SPORTSBOU (2)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: SWEET IRISH LOCH (4) is a well-bred filly, first up here for Joe Pace after two trial wins since joining the stable. On her exposed form from last preparation, she has the best sectional times in this field. She looks well placed. HAPPILY (6) had excuses last start, as she was checked and broke, so that run can be forgiven. Her three career starts prior were all good performances, and she looks to have a few wins ahead of her. MAURLEN COMPASS (9) is a Captaintreacherous-sired filly having her fourth career start. She got her manners wrong last start and trailed the field, but her run prior was impressive when she let down strongly to win at Melton. She has a suitable barrier to follow through early into a good position. ZOOM ZOOM BOOM (8) is the comeback horse in the field, having his fourth start since 2023. He was improved last start when third at Kilmore and, while he will need luck here, should improve again. AMERICAN VICTORY (1) and COLORADO GIRL (2) both have claims in an open race with their good barriers.

BACK: SWEET IRISH LOCH (4) – 2.5 units (win)

SELECTIONS: SWEET IRISH LOCH (4), HAPPILY (6), MAURLEN COMPASS (9), ZOOM ZOOM BOOM (8)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: MAJOR BLITZ (7) is a talented performer who is second up this year. He won well last start when leading from barrier one. This is a trickier draw, but he has the class and excellent gate speed. RANGER RICK (4) has had two starts this year for two big performances at decent odds. He is racing like he is ready to get back into the winners’ circle. GUNFORHIRE (5) is a brilliant swooper and if saved for one run can be flashing home well. SCHERGER THAT (6) has been good at his past two starts at Melton. If saved for one run, he could be flashing home late. FEEL THE REIGN (1) is an experienced performer who will appreciate barrier one here.

BACK: MAJOR BLITZ (7) – 2.5 units (win)

SELECTIONS: MAJOR BLITZ (7), RANGER RICK (4), GUNFORHIRE (5), SCHERGER THAT (6)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: CENTURIAN DREAM (5) smashed the line to win impressively last start at Terang. She is a fast mare at her best and now has the winning confidence. TWEEDLEDEE (8) finds a massive drop in class with a $10,000 claim price in this event. He was beaten only 5.5 metres by star mare I Am Wilma last start. He has been racing in or near top-level company recently and will appreciate this race. KARBINE (4) is a versatile horse with a brilliant turn of foot, but can also race tough and make his own luck. He is in great form, winning his last two. THE SKY IS THE LIMIT (2) has a better barrier than her main rivals here. If she can use that to her advantage, she is a good first four chance.

SELECTIONS: CENTURIAN DREAM (5), TWEEDLEDEE (8), KARBINE (4), THE SKY IS THE LIMIT (2),

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: SCHWARZ (6) is first up since November 2024. Although he is still a maiden, he raced the top horses of his age group in his lightly raced career. He comes from the leading Emma Stewart stable and looks the class runner in this event. WOODVILLE FLYER (2) is a smart filly out of star mare Aussie Made Lombo, having her third career start here. She was impressive last start at Kilmore, racing three wide for the final lap, with cover for most of it, and still hitting the line really well. She looks to have ability and has a better barrier here. MAURLEN GRACE (1) has had wide second row barriers at her last two starts. She has made late wide runs and hit the line well. She has drawn the front row only once, and on that occasion she drew barrier one and galloped, which is a concern here. But if she can stay in her gear and use the barrier to her advantage, she should get a good run and hit the line well. SEASIDE LADY (3) has good gate speed and should be able to map into a good position.

SELECTIONS: SCHWARZ (6), WOODVILLE FLYER (2), MAURLEN GRACE (1), TALKBABYTALK (4)
