Mildura, Wednesday 10 December

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: CORNELIA (2) finished off well from eighth to pick up second behind APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8) in her heat performance. She won at Mildura prior and will appreciate her best draw for some time so she should prove hard to beat. APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8) was slow to begin, settled midfield and sustained a long run out three horses wide from the 600m when he won his heat. He has been placed in four of his past five starts and should be competitive again. GLITZY ALL OVER (6) is poorly drawn but was desperately unlucky in her heat performance, where she was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished strongly. She has been runner up in four of her past five starts and deserves to break through for a win. CALF PEN (3) finished off well from midfield to win his heat and looms as one of the leading chances again.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2,4,5

SELECTIONS: CORNELIA (2), APOLOGY ACCEPTED (8), GLITZY ALL OVER (6), CALF PEN (3)

RATINGS: 2/ 6,8/ 3/ 11,12/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: CORNELIA (2) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: RONZEL MICKY (4) had to be driven hard into the first turn to find the lead and set up a good tempo when a strong winner at Mildura last week. She continues to build on her consistent record and this race is no harder so she should prove hard to beat again. SHES POPPY (3) finished sixth behind RONZEL MICKY (4) last week but she commenced from the outside of the second row and had no clear run at the finish, seemingly with plenty in reserve. She possesses early speed and was a winner under similar conditions on November 12 so she must be respected. ROYAL SAXON (1) performed below expectations at his first run since July but he was competitive at a higher level during his last campaign of racing so he is worth another chance. THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (2) is stepping up in class from her latest victory but she has the early speed to be prominent throughout.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 2,3

SELECTIONS: RONZEL MICKY (4), SHES POPPY (3), ROYAL SAXON (1), THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (2)

RATINGS: 4/ 3/ 1,2,10/ 6,7/ 11

SUGGESTED BET: RONZEL MICKY (4) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: RONZEL SONNY (11) broke stride in the score up and lost his chance when unplaced at Globe Derby last outing. He finished off strongly to win against a field of similar standard at Mildura prior and is worth thought again. ROBERT CROCKA (8) began fast but couldn’t hold out the early challenge of Ronzel Micky, trailed the leader and had no clear run at the finish when an unlucky fourth at Mildura last week. He is racing in peak form and led throughout to score at Mildura three starts ago so he must be respected. ROCKING WROXTON (1) is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern and should give a forward showing. He attempted to lead throughout when second behind RONZEL SONNY (11) on November 21. UNCUT GEM (9) has had a lot of chances since coming down from Queensland but he had no luck in the straight and should have finished closer last week so he cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 4

SELECTIONS: RONZEL SONNY (11), ROBERT CROCKA (8), ROCKING WROXTON (1), UNCUT GEM (9)

RATINGS: 8,11/ 1/ 6,9

SUGGESTED BET: RONZEL SONNY (11) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: COLMAN SIGN (8) pushed forward from a wide draw and endured a tough trip when fifth at his Mildura debut. He was placed against stronger company at Bendigo prior and should go well under these conditions. THE NINJA (11) ran a good race for second after working hard early last week. He has been runner up in three of his past five starts and is worth thought again. ZAPPA (4) ran into a distant third behind the smart pacer Jilliby Sniper last outing. This race is easier and he should continue to benefit with the experience of racing. MINI VINNEY (7) and SHES MAGICAL (10) were both beaten by a long way at the trials last week but they met strong opposition and the times were fast so they must be kept safe.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 1

SELECTIONS: COLMAN SIGN (8), THE NINJA (11), ZAPPA (4), SHES MAGICAL (10)

RATINGS: 8/ 4,11/ 3,7,10

SUGGESTED BET: COLMAN SIGN (8) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: THEBUCKSONYOU (2) was resuming since August when he settled in eighth position, followed forward behind STARVIN MARVIN (5) in the final circuit and finished well for second behind LOUIEVILLE (9) last week. He should be fitter from that run and is better drawn so he should prove hard to beat. STARVIN MARVIN (5) did battle on well after being three horses wide for the final 600m in the same race last week and is worth an investment. MASON DIXON LINE (3) returns to Victoria after a stint in New South Wales and performed very well when second behind DALLAS MIKI (10) at the trials last week. He is drawn to be prominent throughout. AMERICAN BOXER (6), LOUIEVILLE (9) and DALLAS MIKI (10) are all capable of showing up without surprising in a strong race.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: THEBUCKSONYOU (2), STARVIN MARVIN (5), MASON DIXON LINE (3), DALLAS MIKI (10)

RATINGS: 2/ 3,5/ 6,9,10/ FIELD

SUGGESTED BET: THEBUCKSONYOU (2) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (4) is resuming since an eighth at Mildura in August but he was very impressive at the trials last week, where he led throughout and won by over fifty metres in a sizzling mile rate of 1.57.5. A repeat of that performance will see him being very competitive here. CAULONIA BELLA (3) is racing consistently against this class and battled on well after working hard in the run last week. She is well drawn and is worth a ticket each way. ROOSTER PHILLIPS (7) produced a career best performance when he settled three back on the inside and finished off best to win at Mildura last outing. This race is a little tougher but he is worth thought again. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6) settled in the second half of the field, came out very wide on the home turn and finished off well for second last week. He is widely drawn but is capable of running into a place again.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 3,5,6

SELECTIONS: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (4), CAULONIA BELLA (3), ROOSTER PHILLIPS (7), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6)

RATINGS: 4/ 3,7/ 6/ 1,8/ 9,10

SUGGESTED BET: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (4) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (2) settled in the second half of the field, pushed through into the one out and one back trail at the 500m and finished off well for third behind Earl of Pembroke last week. He should strip fitter from that outing and he boasts a very strong record so he must be respected. HOT DEAL (7) has won nine of his seventeen starts at Mildura and finished off strongly to defeat Earl Of Pembroke at Geelong two starts ago. He competed against the Metropolitan open class at his latest sixth to Bulletproof Boy and he is much better placed against this grade. ALL DA RAGE (6) was resuming since September when a close third behind Modern Ginger at Mildura then faded after working hard in the run at Globe Derby. He is a versatile pacer and is usually competitive against this class. KEAYANG MOROCCAN (5) and RIO ROCK (8) are both worth thought in multiple combinations.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (likely leader), 2,3

SELECTIONS: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (2), HOT DEAL (7), ALL DA RAGE (6), RIO ROCK (8)

RATINGS: 2,7/ 6/ 5,8

SUGGESTED BET: TOUGH AINT ENOUGH (2) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: WIPEOUT (8) is a former New South Wales pacer, which finished fourth behind the smart 3yo My Ultimate Jimmy at his local debut. He has been going extremely well at the trials and should take beating against this line up. AVOCA BLUES (2) is a fast beginner and is performing consistently against this class. He set up a genuine tempo and was run down late when fourth behind Archie Moth at Mildura last week. He is drawn to lead again and is worth an investment. GOOD BOOTS BINDI (1) is capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward and is perfectly drawn to trail the leader so she must be respected. CAULONIA TERROR (5) finished off well for fifth when resuming and is worth a ticket each way.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 3,4

SELECTIONS: WIPEOUT (8), AVOCA BLUES (2), GOOD BOOTS BINDI (1), CAULONIA TERROR (5)

RATINGS: 8/ 1,2/ 5/ 3,6

SUGGESTED BET: WIPEOUT (8) to win
