Melton, Saturday 30 August

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: HIGH FLUX (4) sustained a long run from the 600m mark and scored impressively at Shepparton after a fast finishing third behind Always Be Blakey. He is racing in peak form and looms as one of the leading chances again. JILLIBY TIDALWAVE (1) is rising in class but has been placed at her past eight starts and is likely to end up being behind the leader so she is worth an investment. She worked home nicely for third behind Ted at Bendigo last outing. ROCKABILLY RINGO (3) is a fast beginner and is suited to racing over the sprint distance. He finished off well for third behind Ruff Nut (won again since) at Melton two weeks ago then attempted to lead throughout at his latest sixth. CURYO GENTLEMAN (13) is poorly drawn over the sprint distance but he produced a big performance to win at Ballarat last outing, where he pushed forward to race without cover in a mile rate of 1.55.2. He has winning claims along with DANCE AFFAIR (12), which appears to be well graded in this event.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 1,5,6

SELECTIONS: HIGH FLUX (4), JILLIBY TIDALWAVE (1), ROCKABILLY RINGO (3), CURYO GENTLEMAN (13)

RATINGS: 4/ 1,3,12/ 12/ 6,8/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: HIGH FLUX (4) each way

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: HOPPY (3) has returned from a spell in peak form and will take beating from his good draw. He was driven aggressively and proved to be too strong at his latest Melton victory over Promise Dream. SEBASTIANS BOY (12) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and should be finishing strongly. He scored at Melton on July 12 and his past two efforts have been against the open class with his latest seventh being behind the in-form trotter I’m Bobby. OUR MARVELLA (8) worked forward to find the lead and was able to score comfortably at Melton last week. She faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but is racing too well to dismiss. REMUS PHOENIX (7) struck bother and lost his chance last outing. His form prior was sound and he is worth another chance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 9possible leader), 1,3,6

SELECTIONS: HOPPY (3), SEBASTIANS BOY (12), OUR MARVELLA (8), REMUS PHOENIX (7)

RATINGS: 3/ 7,8,12/ 2,4,10

SUGGESTED BET: HOPPY (3) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: WAR DAN BUDDY (9) is searching for three straight victories and is a big chance of completing the task. He recorded a slick mile of 1.50.5 at Menangle then finished off best in his Melton victory on August 16. DANGEROUS (8) is resuming since a second in the Charlton Cup in March but he has been performing extremely well at the trials and should make his presence felt. He finished fifth in the Sydney Inter Dominion Final back in December so he has the class to test this field. HES FROM HEAVEN (5) is a versatile pacer, which continues to race consistently against this class. He was finishing off quickly when third behind WAR DAN BUDDY (9) at Melton last outing. ULTIMATE VINNIE (3) performs best when he is able to lead so he is perfectly drawn while BETTOR ISOLATE (6) and WESTERN SONADOR (7) are both capable of sprinting to the line quickly with the right trail forward.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 4

SELECTIONS: WAR DAN BUDDY (9), DANGEROUS (8), HES FROM HEAVEN (5), ULTIMATE VINNIE (3)

RATINGS: 8,9/ 5/ 3,6,7

SUGGESTED BET: WAR DAN BUDDY (9) to win

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: KYVALLEY MAVEN (12) settled in the second half of the field, circled around to park without cover and battled on fairly well for fifth last outing. He endured a tough run and scored easily at Bendigo three starts back so he is worth another chance. IMPERIAL COMMAND (6) finished off best to score in a sizzling mile rate of 1.56.6 at Melton two starts ago. He couldn’t work into the race from a rearward position last week but he possesses gate speed so the move to the front line is a definite advantage. CALL ME JACK (5) is resuming since June but he possesses a powerful finishing burst and has been racing well at the trials so he warrants respect. KYVALLEYHONEYBUNNY (11) is awkwardly drawn but she finished second after leading out then taking cover behind Our Marvella last week so she is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 1,3,4

SELECTIONS: KYVALLEY MAVEN (12), IMPERIAL COMMAND (6), CALL ME JACK (5), KYVALLEYHONEYBUNNY (11)

RATINGS: 6,12/ 5/ 11/ 10/ 1,2/ 4

SUGGESTED BET: KYVALLEY MAVEN (12) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: WORTH WAITING (2) settled in the second half of the field and finished off strongly when a game second behind Promise Dream at Melton last outing. She led throughout at her previous Melton victory and should prove hard to beat from her good draw. DICHOTOMY (9) is resuming since a strong Melton victory back in June. She won three of her last four starts at the end of her preparation and will take beating if she is somewhere near her peak form. EZRA KAI (13) is resuming since June but he is a quality 3yo trotter and has performed nicely at the trials with a win and a third at Shepparton recently. He is poorly drawn but has too much ability to dismiss. MEADOW VALLEY STAR (4) did extremely well when a game second behind Hoppy at Bendigo last outing and is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely leader), 4,5,7

SELECTIONS: WORTH WAITING (2), DICHOTOMY (9), EZRA KAI (13), MEADOW VALLEY STAR (4)

RATINGS: 2,9/ 13/ 4/ 10,12/ 3

SUGGESTED BET: WORTH WAITING (2) to win

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: IN AN IDEAL WORLD (5) is a short course specialist, which attempted to lead throughout and finished second behind Looks Perfect in track record time at Charlton last outing. He appears to be suited under these conditions and will take catching. MICHEN ROY (4) is racing in career best form and should give another bold showing. He progressed forward from a rearward position to park without cover when a big winner at Cranbourne then endured another tough trip when a close third behind Ruff Nut last week. CHEERSTOLOU (8) attempted to lead throughout when second behind Hittheroadjack at Melton on August 01 and hasn’t had much luck since. He is not without a chance against this grade. ROSBERG (3) has been racing well against similar opposition and is drawn to gain a trail just off the pace so he rates as a value hope.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 3,4,6

SELECTIONS: IN AN IDEAL WORLD (5), MICHEN ROY (4), CHEERSTOLOU (8), ROSBERG (3)

RATINGS: 5/ 4/ 3,8/ 2,6,7/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: IN AN IDEAL WORLD (5) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: SOAP AND BUBBLES (3) is a quality filly, which has won five of her seven starts to date and should prove hard to beat again. She raced fiercely in the front running role and was run down late when second behind Ideal Moth at Shepparton then finished off best from off the speed to score in a mile rate of 1.53.8 last outing. MITZI SAID (8) ran a big race when second behind Go Miki last week, where she sprinted quickly from midfield in a final half of 55.9 seconds. This is a race of less depth so she is capable of going one better. BUBBY TO BASE (6) returned to her peak form when she finished off best to defeat Ohoka Niko (won since) at Wagga last outing. She is a versatile mare and is worth thought again. CENTOFELLIE (4) ran a big race for second behind SOAP AND BUBBLES (3) two starts ago then worked into third via the sprint lane behind Go Miki last week. She has returned from a spell in peak form and is ready to break through for a win.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 4,6

SELECTIONS: SOAP AND BUBBLES (3), MITZI SAID (8), BUBBY TO BASE (6), CENTOFELLIE (4)

RATINGS: 3/ 8/ 4,6/ 1,7/ 2,5

SUGGESTED BET: SOAP AND BUBBLES (3) to win

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: CIGANO (12) has only suffered defeat once in five starts for the season and that effort was in the Nutrien Classic Final. He was a very impressive winner in a mile rate of 1.54.7 at Melton last outing and should take beating again. ALWAYS BE BLAKEY (10) settled last on the markers from an awkward draw and had no room over the latter stages so he had excuses at his latest seventh. He recorded a sizzling mile rate of 1.52.8 when he scored at Melton prior so he looms as one of the leading chances again. MONA MIA (1) is a classy mare, which appears to be suited against this line up and is drawn to receive every chance. JACCKA CONNOR (7) is poorly drawn but he finished brilliantly from three back on the markers when a close fourth (1/2 neck) behind Operative Line last week so he is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (possible leader), 5,6

SELECTIONS: CIGANO (12), ALWAYS BE BLAKEY (10), MONA MIA (1), JACCKA CONNOR (7)

RATINGS: 12/ 10/ 1,7/ 5,6/ 3,4,8/ 9

SUGGESTED BET: CIGANO (12) to win

Race 9:

OVERVIEW: FOX DAN (4) progressed forward to race without cover when a big winner in a strong mile rate of 1.54.0 (2240m) at Melton last outing. He is building up an imposing strike rate and is clearly the horse to beat again. JUSTALITTLESIP (9) sprinted sharply from midfield and won clearly over Arggghhh and LE BELLE BIJOUX (7) at Melton last outing. He gets into this race nicely with a concession claim and is worth thought again. SURFINGMAKESCENTS (3) finished off strongly when second behind FOX DAN (4) last outing. She has performed well in her four starts since resuming from a long break and looms as one of the leading chances again. DIAMOND ECLIPSE (6) put together three straight victories prior being shuffled back on the markers and using the sprint lane in the home straight at his latest fifth. He is a speedy pacer and warrants respect.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,3,6

SELECTIONS: FOX DAN (4), JUSTALITTLESIP (9), SURFINGMAKESCENTS (3), DIAMOND ECLIPSE (6)

RATINGS: 4/ 9/ 3,6/ 7/ 5

SUGGESTED BET: FOX DAN (4) to win

Race 10:

OVERVIEW: CAPTAIN PERFECT (5) and STORMS COLLIDE (6) stage a return clash after their meeting on August 16 resulted in a victory to STORMS COLLIDE (6). The barrier draw is reversed this evening and CAPTAIN PERFECT (5) was game in defeat in their last showdown so he could turn the tables. IDEAL BANDIT (1) faces his toughest test but he has been very impressive at his three victories to date so he is capable of taking the next step forward. MAJOR CRUNCH (2) is a fast beginner and chased hard when second behind the in-form pacer Ruff Nut last outing so he is not without a chance.

EARLY SPEED: 2 (likely early leader), 1,5,6,7

SELECTIONS: STORMS COLLIDE (6), CAPTAIN PERFECT (5), IDEAL BANDIT (1), MAJOR CRUNCH (2)

RATINGS: 5,6/ 1/ 2/ 4,7/ 3
