Form Analysis by Craig Rail
Race 1:
OVERVIEW: LOOKS PERFECT (13) hasn’t started since winning the Homegrown Classic in December but she dashed home in a slick final half of 56.8 seconds to win a trial at Terang recently so she should be somewhere near her peak. She has a tough draw to overcome but is a strong chance of keeping her undefeated record intact. GOODTIME CAPTAIN (9) was driven aggressively in the early stages and responded with a strong victory at Bendigo last outing. He follows out behind a fast beginner and should be competitive again. SASSYOLA (10) settled in a rearward position and finished off nicely for third at Melton last outing. She is racing consistently and is worth a place ticket. Other place hopes include OLIVIA ROSE (6), ASMILEANDAWINX (8) and BRINGSUSJOY (12).
EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible early leader), 1,6
SELECTIONS: LOOKS PERFECT (13), GOODTIME CAPTAIN (9), SASSYOLA (10), OLIVIA ROSE (6)
RATINGS: 13/ 9/ 6,10/ 12/ 8
SUGGESTED BET: LOOKS PERFECT (13) to win
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: CHASING THE WIND (9) pushed forward from a wide gate to race without cover and battled on strongly for a close second behind Villarock last week. He is racing in peak form and is ready to break through for a win. FOUR LONELY NIGHTS (6) led out then took cover when fourth behind Villarock last week. He is usually competitive against this class and has the early speed to be prominent throughout. YANKEE GAMBLER (7) endured a tough run and did well when third behind Jilliby Tidalwave at Ballarat. He is widely drawn again but is racing too well to dismiss. BEST BACK BRUCE (10) attempted to lead throughout when second behind Olivia Rose last week. He is a short course specialist and is worth a ticket each way.
EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible early leader), 1,5,6
SELECTIONS: CHASING THE WIND (9), FOUR LONELY NIGHTS (6), YANKEE GAMBLER (7), BEST BACK BRUCE (10)
RATINGS: 9/ 6,7/ 10/ 5
SUGGESTED BET: CHASING THE WIND (9) to win
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: VINEY (6) bounced back to his best form with a dominant front running display at Melton, where he won by nearly twenty metres in a mile rate of 1.54.2. A repeat performance will see him go close to winning again. RANGER RICK (5) is a very fast beginner and performs best when he is able to lead. He attempted to lead throughout when a close second behind Jazzy Melea (won again since) at Horsham last outing and should give another forward showing under these conditions. POPCORNFRIDAY (2) is an underrated pacer, which worked hard early then gained a trail and battled on nicely in a slick mile rate of 1.54.3 at Melton last week. He is perfectly drawn and rates as a value hope. MAXNJAX (9) was confidently supported and finished off best to win at Geelong last outing. This race is only slightly tougher so he is worth thought again.
EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely leader), 3,4,6
SELECTIONS: VINEY (6), RANGER RICK (5), POPCORNFRIDAY (2), MAXNJAX (9)
RATINGS: 6/ 5/ 2,9/ 10
SUGGESTED BET: VINEY (6) to win
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: HUMOUR ME (2) is a debutante by American Ideal, which won a trial at Maryborough in March when prepared by Lisa Miles. She subsequently has been transferred to trainer Emma Stewart and is likely to attract plenty of support. ILOVEACALENDERGIRL (5) worked to the front and was run down late by Marjendos (won again since) at Cranbourne then followed with a fifth at Bendigo, where she was forced to race without cover. She has a tricky draw again but she looms as one of the leading chances. SEGUI LE STELLA (6) took on much tougher opposition when unplaced last outing but her previous form was sound including a third at Ballarat, where she attempted to lead throughout. She is a fast beginner and is a definite place chance. LOAN SAILOR (3), MY BEAUTIFUL LIFE (4) and HURRICANE HOOLY (8) are all worth thought in multiple combinations.
EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible early leader), 2,5
SELECTIONS: HUMOUR ME (2), ILOVEACALENDERGIRL (5), SEGUI LE STELLA (6), HURRICANE HOOLY (8)
RATINGS: 2/ 5,6,8/ 4/ 7
SUGGESTED BET: HUMOUR ME (2) to win
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: LADY IN THE SKY (9) will appreciate a big drop back in class for this assignment and should prove hard to beat. She led throughout at a Cranbourne victory on May 04 and her latest fourth was at Metropolitan level. COCONUT MICKEY (5) finished off boldly for third at his first run back from a break and followed with a Maryborough victory, where he stormed along the sprint lane over the final stages. He has returned from a spell in peak form and looms as one of the leading chances again. BLACK AND GOLD (1) worked hard in the run and kicked on determinedly for a strong victory at Bendigo then couldn’t work into the race after drawing on the second line at her latest attempt. She has claims from the pole position. WATTS UP RAPTOR (2) galloped when resuming and is worth another chance. JACK SPRAT (4) has been in winning form recently and cannot be dismissed.
EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 1,5
SELECTIONS: LADY IN THE SKY (9), COCONUT MICKEY (5), BLACK AND GOLD (1), WATTS UP RAPTOR (2)
RATINGS: 5,9/ 1,2/ 4/ 8
SUGGESTED BET: LADY IN THE SKY (9) to win
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: PARLEZVOUS PATTY (8) was able to lead throughout in a mile of 1.59.6 at his latest attempt and is worth thought again despite the awkward draw. He is versatile and is building up a consistent record. IM ABOVE THE LAW (4) is a fast beginner and will take catching if he is able to find the lead. He was narrowly beaten after setting the speed when he was resuming then was shuffled back on the markers after commencing from the inside of the second line last outing. IMPERIAL COMMAND (9) broke stride when resuming then progressed forward to find the lead when he held off his rivals to win at Maryborough. This is a race of more depth but he is capable of taking the next step forward. MIELICKI (5) was finding the line well despite finishing eighth last outing and LEANNE LEEANN (2) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment.
EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 1,6,7
SELECTIONS: PARLEZVOUS PATTY (8), IM ABOVE THE LAW (4), IMPERIAL COMMAND (9), MIELICKI (5)
RATINGS: 8/ 4/ 2,5,9/ 1,7
SUGGESTED BET: PARLEZVOUS PATTY (8) each way
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: KEAYANG BRANDY (2) had her chance to gun down ALLWATFUNJINGLES (3) at Bendigo but that was her first run since April and only her second run for the season so she will obviously derive plenty of benefit from that performance. She is perfectly drawn and is capable of turning the tables. ALLWATFUNJINGLES (3) sat without cover when he scored at Bendigo then took on much harder opposition when unplaced in the race won by the undefeated trotter Ijustcalledtosay at Melton. He appears to be suited in this class and is worth another chance. MONTANA CHEVELLE (5) will appreciate a big drop back in class for this assignment and is likely to give a bold showing. CHRISTMAS BABE (1) is a brilliant beginner and attempted to lead throughout at her latest third. She is suited to racing over the sprint distance and is worth thought again. TUNBRIDGE (7) and RYMES (8) both made errors at their latest attempt but have too much ability to dismiss.
EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,3,4,5
SELECTIONS: KEAYANG BRANDY (2), ALLWATFUNJINGLES (3), MONTANA CHEVELLE (5), CHRISTMAS BABE (1)
RATINGS: 2/ 3,5/ 1,7/ 8
SUGGESTED BET: KEAYANG BRANDY (2) each way
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: CHICAGO CRAZE (3) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off well for a distant second behind the smart trotter Kinvara Kate then did the work on the outside of the leader at his latest second. This is a suitable assignment and he gets his chance to break through for a win. MET WITH A SHRUG (2) is resuming since a debut seventh in February but she was heavily supported in that performance ($3-10 fav) and her trial form has been sound. She is still learning but will prove hard to beat if she delivers a fool proof display. THE ITALIAN DREAM (1) is resuming since being unplaced in the Breeders Crown back in November but she will be fitter after three recent trial performances and is drawn to go well. ALDEBARAN AXL (4) has been placed in four of his eight starts to date and should be competitive again.
EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,3
SELECTIONS: CHICAGO CRAZE (3), MET WITH A SHRUG (2), THE ITALIAN DREAM (1), ALDEBARAN AXL (4)
RATINGS: 3/ 1,2/ 4/ 8
SUGGESTED BET: CHICAGO CRAZE (3) to win
Race 9:
OVERVIEW: APOLLOSTORM (3) is resuming since a seventh in the Nutrien Classic in April but he finished off in brilliant final sectionals (55.0, 27.2) at his latest Terang trial victory so he is clearly the horse to beat. SANDSTING (6) is a consistent performer and was runner up behind Foresight (won again since) in a fast mile of 1.55.9 at Cranbourne two starts ago so he appears to be a strong Quinella chance. IM THE WILD ONE (1) possesses early speed and is likely to lead out then take cover behind APOLLOSTORM (3) so she is a definite place chance. LADY SALINA (4) has been placed in three of her past four starts against similar grade so she is worth thought in multiple combinations.
EARLY SPEED: 3 (likely leader), 1,4
SELECTIONS: APOLLOSTORM (3), SANDSTING (6), IM THE WILD ONE (1), LADY SALINA (4)
RATINGS: 3/ 6/ 1,4/ 5
SUGGESTED BET: APOLLOSTORM (3) to win
