Form Analysis by Craig Rail
Race 1:
OVERVIEW: SOHO PLAYGIRL (4) is racing in peak form and ran a very brave third at Shepparton last week when she raced without cover in a mile rate of 1.56.0. She is a good chance of finding the lead here and will take catching. RUBY WINGATE (11) possesses a powerful finishing burst and ran another good race when third at Bendigo on Wednesday. She has been placed in five of her past six starts and looms as one of the leading chances again. WITH IN REASON (5) drew awkwardly, settled last on the markers and was held up for a run at a vital stage when a game fourth last week. He scored comfortably at Shepparton prior and should go well again. SIR SONNY MAGUIRE (6) performed below expectations when seventh at Echuca last outing but his form prior was sound including a runaway victory at Shepparton so he is worth another chance.
EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,3,6
SELECTIONS: SOHO PLAYGIRL (4), RUBY WINGATE (11), WITH IN REASON (5), SIR SONNY MAGUIRE (6)
RATINGS: 4/ 5,11/ 6 /12/ 3,9,11
SUGGESTED BET: SOHO PLAYGIRL (4) to win
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: PLAYNICE (13) holds the key to the race. He has the ability to be more than competitive but his antics at the start have been a downfall at his past three attempts. He was a runaway winner against similar opposition four starts ago and he will take beating again if he delivers a fool proof display. JOEYS HANGOVER (10) finished strongly from midfield and got up to score over OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8) at Shepparton last week. This is a field of similar quality so he should go well again. OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8) was very brave in defeat after doing all of the work in the run last week. He is awkwardly drawn but cannot be left out of calculations. NOBLE JULIA (5) is likely to utilize her gate speed to find a prominent position early and is usually competitive against this class so she is not without a chance.
EARLY SPEED: 5 (likely early leader), 2
SELECTIONS: PLAYNICE (13), JOEYS HANGOVER (10), OHHEMMJAY CRESCO (8), NOBLE JULIA (5)
RATINGS: 13/ 8,10/ 5/ 2,12/ 9
SUGGESTED BET: PLAYNICE (13) each way
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: HILLTOP HUGH (2) led throughout to win against the Maiden class at his debut. This is a much harder race but he was very impressive first up so he is capable of taking the next step forward. I AM HARRO (10) is resuming since an unplaced effort in a heat of the Super Series in September but she performed very nicely when second behind the Metropolitan class trotter Picket Wire at a Bendigo trial on Monday so she must be respected. FRITSCH (3) is resuming since December but he was an easy trial winner at Melton on Tuesday and he is drawn to prominent throughout. OURPETABILT (7) made an error when unplaced at her Victorian debut last week but she has ability when she is able to put it altogether so she cannot be discarded.
EARLY SPEED: 2 (possible leader), 3,7
SELECTIONS: HILLTOP HUGH (2), I AM HARRO (10), FRITSCH (3), OURPETABILT (7)
RATINGS: 2/ 3,10/ 7/ 1,4
SUGGESTED BET: HILLTOP HUGH (2) each way
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: ADIEU MIKENNIS (8) has been in great form since joining trainer Alex Ashwood and is a good chance of completing four wins in succession. He led throughout to score in a mile rate of 1.59.6 at Mildura last week. I LIKE WHAT I SEE (9) is backing up quickly from her effort at Melton on Friday but she should be competitive under these conditions. She worked to the front and scored at Wagga on June 10 after finishing off quite well for second behind Inside Leg on this track. JACKSBOY (3) finished well from the second half of the field when fourth behind No Emotion at Bendigo last outing. He is a consistent performer and should be competitive from his good draw. IAMAWINGATE (4) performs best when he can lead out then take cover so he is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. He has won a trial since his latest performance so he is worth an investment.
EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely early leader), 1,5
SELECTIONS: ADIEU MIKENNIS (8), I LIKE WHAT I SEE (9), JACKSBOY (3), IAMAWINGATE (4)
RATINGS: 8/ 3,9/ 4/ 1,6
SUGGESTED BET: ADIEU MIKENNIS (8) to win
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: LAMBRO MACH (4) makes his debut for trainer Andy Gath after victories in the Golden Nursery Stakes and the Lordship Stakes in South Australia. He was an impressive Melton trial winner recently so he must be considered as a strong winning chance. OKANUI BEACH (6) has also been impressive at the trials recently and he won the Dandy Patch Stakes in Tasmania last season so he cannot be underestimated. He is a strong pacer and is building up a good record. The classy mare MONA MIA (9) appears to be very well graded in this event and she worked home well for a distant third in a slick mile rate of 1.53.2 at Melton last outing. She should be hitting the line strongly from her trailing draw. SUNSET STRIDE (8) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and is a possible improver.
EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 6
SELECTIONS: LAMBRO MACH (4), OKANUI BEACH (6), MONA MIA (9), SUNSET STRIDE (8)
RATINGS: 4,6/ 9/ 8/ 2,7
SUGGESTED BET: LAMBRO MACH (4) to win
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: OUR MYSTERY BET (3) will find this assignment to be easier than his latest performances and gets his chance to return to winning form. He was a winner at Shepparton in March and he hasn’t had much luck in recent times. BLUE OCEAN (9) is a grinding type, which has been racing consistently against this class. He was beaten by a narrow margin at Charlton three starts ago and he was able to work into fourth after settling in the second half of the field last week. BERYLS GRIN (8) is working back into form and battled on reasonably well at his latest third. He follows out behind a fast beginner and he rates as a value chance. SILVER DOMINO (7) ran his best race for some time when he finished second behind Kimchi at Maryborough last outing. This is a race of similar quality so he is worth thought.
EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 1
SELECTIONS: OUR MYSTERY BET (3), BLUE OCEAN (9), BERYLS GRIN (8), SILVER DOMINO (7)
RATINGS: 3/ 8,9/ 7/ 1,4
SUGGESTED BET: OUR MYSTERY BET (3) each way
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: BULLAPARK BENO (7) continues to race in good form and deserves to break through for a win. He worked hard when third at Bendigo two starts ago then followed with a third behind the smart trotter Alrighty. He is versatile and should go well despite the wide draw. WATTS UP THE HILL (8) won easily at his debut after he sprinted quickly from midfield. He is stepping up in class and is poorly drawn but he is a quality horse and is worth thought again. STARLIGHT RED (3) tried to sustain a long run out three horses wide from the 700m when a game second behind Van Doren at Shepparton last outing. She is racing in peak form and looms as one of the leading chances again. ALFIE ALWAYS (4) is a fast beginner and performs best when he is able to lead. He commenced from the handicap of 20m and worked hard to find the lead when fourth behind Prohibited Bid last outing. He switches to the mobile conditions now and is worth an investment.
EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 2,4,7
SELECTIONS: BULLAPARK BENO (7), WATTS UP THE HILL (8), STARLIGHT RED (3), ALFIE ALWAYS (4)
RATINGS: 7,8/ 3/ 4/ 2,9
SUGGESTED BET: BULLAPARK BENO (7) each way
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: FAITH FULL (5) trailed the leader and finished off best to score at Charlton last outing. She has done well in three starts back from a break and looms as one of the leading chances again. SILVER SPOON (6) is resuming since an unplaced effort at Shepparton in March but she was runner up at a recent Menangle trial performance and strikes a suitable assignment first up. MONTANA MUSCLE (2) is a fast beginner and finished third after trailing the leader throughout last week. She is drawn to gain a trail just off the speed again so she must be respected. TAKEN BY WINE (1) is another fast beginner that should be prominent throughout and KALARNEY PRINCE (3) is usually competitive against this class.
EARLY SPEED: 1 (possible leader), 2,3,5
SELECTIONS: FAITH FULL (5), SILVER SPOON (6), MONTNANA MUSCLE (2), KALARNEY PRINCE (3)
RATINGS: 5/ 6/ 2,3/ 1/ 4,7
SUGGESTED BET: FAITH FULL (5) each way
