Form Analysis by Will Norman
Race 1
DENVER STRIKE (3) comes across from Victoria with some sound form. He was 4th in good time last start at Cranbourne when racing keen throughout. He looked to display good gate speed despite not overly asked off the gate and I think he might be able to take up a forward position. IYLAC CHAMBER (7) didn’t have the easiest of trips in his heat of the Dandy Patch last week when 4th to High Believer. He can be an improver today back to maiden company. BRIGHTLY BLAZE (2) makes her debut for the Adrian Duggan stable after having 2 runs at Melton. This looks an easier assignment, and she draws well to be prominent in the run. HAMMERING SEAS (1) was ok here first up behind Allsudsnobubbles and might be an improver with extra fitness on his side.
Selections – DENVER STRIKE (3), IYLAC CHAMBER (7), BRIGHTLY BLAZE (2), HAMMERING SEAS (1)
Race 2
THEE OLD BOMB (1) can be a good improver tonight from the inside draw. He looks the likely leader and the drop back to the mile looks in his favour. His form over the short trip has been good over the last month. MR BONDI (8) draws to follow out his stablemate and looks likely to land leaders back in the run. If that is the map, he should be right in the finish. ZARA TINDALL (5) has won back to back races since coming to Tasmania. She was impressive at Launceston when coming from well back in the field and sustained a 3 wide run. The drop back to the mile and the gate make it harder tonight but she is racing too well to ignore. THE CHANCER (2) drops significantly in grade tonight after racing behind Star Major last start. He gets his chance to bounce back to some form from the good gate.
Selections – THEE OLD BOMB (1), MR BONDI (8), ZARA TINDALL (5), THE CHANCER (2)
Race 3
Despite stepping up in grade tonight, I like the chances of SHOOBEES SPIRIT (9) to go back-to-back after a very impressive effort here last start. He won by over 12m and rated fast time. He draws to land straight in the running line and should be hard to hold out. DENNY ROCKS (1) gets his best draw in a long time tonight and should have options from the draw. ANDAMAN BAY (3) sprinted quickly last Sunday at Launceston when winning comfortably. He is back racing near his best and draws to be right in the mix again. WAZZA (4) is looking for 3 straight wins tonight and can be competitive in his 1st start at Hobart.
Selections – SHOOBEES SPIRIT (9), DENNY ROCKS (1), ANDAMAN BAY (3), WAZZA (4)
Race 4
DENVER MAN (4) is another runner from the Wayne Watson stable who looks well placed tonight. He has had four consecutive placings in Victoria leading into this race and is a good beginner who should be able to land right on the speed. POST LAZARUS (1) went down narrowly to his stablemate at Launceston last Sunday when sitting leaders back in the run. He draws to have a similar run in transit tonight and can be dangerous. PAZIAH (3) was much improved last week here when able to find the front. He was only narrowly run down by Rock On Playboy and a repeat of that performance would see him competitive here. GOT THE GLOW (9) found the line well when clear on her local debut last week and can be an improver 2nd up tonight.
Selections – DENVER MAN (4), POST LAZARUS (1), PAZIAH (3), GOT THE GLOW (9)
Race 5
MISS COLLANN (4) is a mare racing in excellent form. She has finished top two in 7 of her last 9 starts. She sprinted very quickly last start to chase down Smooth Reason after spotting that runner a big start leading into the straight. She looks the horse to beat again. WILL HE PIKE (9) was runner up to the in-form Zara Tindall last start. He has finished 2nd three starts in a row and gets his chance from a nice trailing draw. SMOKESCREEN (1) is a very consistent pacer who was close up at Launceston last start. Not blessed with a lot of early speed, he will be right in the mix if he can hold a forward enough position early. MAGIC JOE (7) has a tricky draw to overcome but didn’t have the best of luck last start.
Selections - MISS COLLANN (4), WILL HE PIKE (9), SMOKESCREEN (1), MAGIC JOE (7)
Race 6
VANQUISH STRIDE (8) should have options early as the sole runner off the back row tonight. He is racing in very consistent form and will be hard to hold out tonight. IRON CLAD (2) was luckless in a similar race on his local debut before sprinting quickly last start in a quick last quarter to score a narrow victory. He looks a strong chance again tonight. GLENLEDI ELVIS (6) nearly run down Star Major 2 starts back before racing well in the stand last week after making an early error. TRIPLE VINNIES (4) is nearly a month between runs but has an excellent record here where he has had 7 starts for 4 wins.
Selections – VANQUISH STRIDE (8), IRON CLAD (2), GLENLEDI ELVIS (6), TRIPLE VINNIES (4)
Race 7
THE GANG (1) was an all-the-way winner at Ballarat on debut before closing off quite well in a solid race at Bendigo last start. Should have options from his inside draw and be hard to beat. ARMA ROLLING STONE (4) continued his very good recent form with a tough effort to finish runner up at Launceston last Sunday. He is likely going to be driven aggressively again tonight and will give his rivals something to chase if he is able to find the front. BUSLOAD OF FAITH (8) paced much better last week here when 3rd to Shoobees Spirit in quick time. If he can behave again, he should be right in the mix again. YARECKON IM SWEET (5) had limited luck at Launceston when flashing home into 3rd. I think tonight’s race looks tougher but she can be running on with the right trail here.
Selections – THE GANG (1), ARMA ROLLING STONE (4), BUSLOAD OF FAITH (8), YARECKON IM SWEET (5)
Race 8
Good clash here between some promising 3yo’s resuming. OURTIGER (2) was last seen at the races in July after winning back-to-back races at Launceston. He draws to race right on the speed on his return and if he is ready to go, will be hard to catch. HORATIUS SPECULO (9) is looking for 3 wins on the trot after last racing in August. He has been primed for his return with a Carrick trial victory by a big margin. He draws to follow his main danger in the run early. MY WAY (7) doesn’t get any favours with the draw tonight but is racing very consistently without a lot of luck. SERIOUSLY SAM (6) resumes tonight without a recent trial but will appreciate a drop back in class after contesting the Raider Stakes and Beautide in his last 2 starts.
Selections – OURTIGER (2), HORATIUS SPECULO (9), MY WAY (7), SERIOUSLY SAM (6)
Race 9
BETATHANABOUGHTONE (1) makes her local debut tonight for Adrian Duggan. She was a good winner at Kilmore two starts back before racing in the breeze at Wagga last start and battling away well when beaten 5.4m. She has mixed her gate speed throughout her career but if she can get off the arm well tonight, she looks to have a suitable race. GOBSMACKED (9) found the line well last week here after sitting 3 pegs in the run and finishing only 3.7m from the winner. He draws to track through well early and looks a good chance tonight. STAROFREMEMBRANCE (8) is racing well and has finished top 2 in her last three starts. She draws to have an economical run in transit tonight. MACH ANGELO (10) carried a flat tyre to victory here last start and does enjoy racing here where he is a winner of 7 races.
Selections – BETATHANABOUGHTONE (1), GOBSMACKED (8), STAROFREMEMBRANCE (8), MACH ANGELO (10)
