Kilmore, Thursday 23 October

Form Analysis by Craig Rail

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: MAXBECA (11) is resuming since June but he recorded handy time when he won a trial at Maryborough last week and he showed enough ability during his last preparation to warrant respect. TOPHUT JOHNY (3) settled in the second half of the field and was the widest runner turning into the front straight when a game second behind Final Bow at Geelong on Friday. He possesses early speed and looms as one of the leading chances. IAMAWINGATE (4) performs best when he is able to lead out then take cover so he is drawn to suit his racing pattern. He recorded a mile rate of 1.57.4 when he scored at Shepparton two starts ago and followed with a fifth at Ballarat last week. CARUSO STAR (5) should be ready to strike peak form after having two starts back from a break and worked home well for second at his latest attempt so he cannot be left out of calculations.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely early leader), 1,3,5

SELECTIONS: MAXBECA (11), TOPHUT JOHNY (3), IAMAWINGATE (4), CARUSO STAR (5)

RATINGS: 3,11/ 4,5/ 6,9

SUGGESTED BET: MAXBECA (11) to win

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: NIVEKALON EAGLE (8) endured a tough run and battled on well for second behind Angel of Anger at Swan Hill on Friday. He worked to the front when he scored at Shepparton three starts ago and he follows out behind a fast beginner so he must be considered as one of the leading chances. SELF EXCLUSION (6) finished off well from midfield and was a close up second behind Dot Ball at his latest attempt. He has been placed at his past two starts against similar opposition and should be competitive again. ATOMIC GLORY (1) is a fast beginner and a short course specialist so he has the conditions to suit him here. He trailed the leader when fourth behind Doctor Go Joh in a mile rate of 1.57.4 at his latest attempt. SPUN SILVER (11) performs best when she is able to lead so being drawn on the second line is a disadvantage but she is racing too well to dismiss.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 6

SELECTIONS: NIVEKALON EAGLE (8), SELF EXCLUSION (6), ATOMIC GLORY (1), SPUN SILVER (11)

RATINGS: 6,8/ 1,11/ 7,9

SUGGESTED BET: NIVEKALON EAGLE (8) to win

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: COOL STORY (4) was slow to begin from the pole position, settled four back on the markers and stormed home late when third behind Jindalea Jack last week. He should continue to improve with the benefit of racing and must be considered as a winning chance. ROCKNLENA (5) was confidently supported at her first run since January and battled on strongly when a game third behind Good Heavens at Kilmore. She should be fitter from that run and will prove hard to beat against this line up. RIDDLEMETHIS (10) finished off well from a rearward position when a handy fourth at Geelong. He did well for second at Ballarat prior and looms as one of the leading chances. IMAGUNNARESTNGO (3) and BOUY (6) are both capable of showing up without surprising.

EARLY SPEED: 5 (possible leader), 3

SELECTIONS: COOL STORY (4), ROCKNLENA (5), RIDDLEMETHIS (10), IMAGUNNARESTNGO (3)

RATINGS: 4,5/ 10/ 3/ 6

SUGGESTED BET: COOL STORY (4) each way

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: ANAKIN (9) is still learning but he is a tough competitor and should make his presence felt. He took plenty of driving but was able to get the job done when he defeated Ollies The Boss in a mile rate of 1.56.1 at Kilmore last outing. He should go well again, despite dropping back to the second row. RAKAROMPA (4) was left stranded without cover and battled on well for fourth behind Platinum Jive at Bendigo last week. She should be getting fitter after having two starts back from a break and is worth an investment. CRAYONS TO PERFUME (5) has been racing consistently and will appreciate a slight drop back in class for this assignment. BELLA LOUISE (7) was an impressive winner at Cranbourne on debut then met smart opposition at her past two attempts. She is a speedy mare and is worth thought.

EARLY SPEED: 1 (likely leader), 2,4,6

SELECTIONS: ANAKIN (9), RAKAROMPA (4), CRAYONS TO PERFUME (5), BELLA LOUISE (7)

RATINGS: 9/ 4,5/ 7/ 2,6,10

SUGGESTED BET: ANAKIN (9) each way

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: THE ITALIAN DREAM (8) competed in the Nutrien Classic series at her past two starts and will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. She finished fifth behind the star filly Tracy The Jet in the Final of that series last outing. KYVALLEY MARIACHI (6) pressed forward to find the lead and completely dominated the maiden class when a big winner at Ballarat last outing. This is a race of more depth but she should prove hard to beat again. TE AMO (7) lacks solid racing but he has ability when he is able to put it altogether and he has won two trials recently so he must be respected. TELLA SHES DREAMIN (9) is a speedy mare and is worth thought along with AGAINST THE BRIDLE (10).

EARLY SPEED: 6 (possible leader), 3,5,7

SELECTIONS: THE ITALIAN DREAM (8), KYVALLEY MARIACHI (6), TE AMO (7), TELLA SHES DREAMIN (9)

RATINGS: 6,8/ 7/ 9,10/ 3

SUGGESTED BET: THE ITALIAN DREAM (8) each way

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: SNIPPET (4) is an Emma Stewart trained colt, which pushed forward to race without cover and won easily at Melton on debut. He appears to have a promising future and is clearly the horse to beat again. RAZOR HORIZON (8) led throughout and dashed home in a slick final half when a comfortable winner at Shepparton last outing. He has won a trial at Melton since and is one of the leading chances again. FICTION FILE (7) finished off well for second behind RAZOR HORIZON (8) then scored in a mile rate of 1.57.2 at Bendigo. She is racing in great form and should go well again. SOLS ME NAME (6) is resuming since a sixth in the Australian Gold Graduate at Melton in May. He has won two trials recently and has the ability to give this a shake.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,6,7

SELECTIONS: SNIPPET (4), RAZOR HORIZON (8), FICTION FILE (7), SOLS ME NAME (6)

RATINGS: 4/ 7,8/ 6/ 2,3,5

SUGGESTED BET: SNIPPET (4) to win

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: FEEL THE REIGN (6) led out then took cover when third behind the smart pacer Tuivasa last outing. He is racing consistently and looms as one of the leading chances in an open race. HIGHVIEW HAMMER (4) is a brilliant beginner and is building up a consistent record having been placed at his past six attempts. He attempted to lead throughout when third in a slick mile of 1.54.7 last outing. ANIMADO (7) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and was a winner at Kilmore three starts ago so he has winning claims. HOME AND DRY (1) and WRITTEN IN SILK (3) are both capable of featuring prominently from their good draw.

EARLY SPEED: 3 (possible leader), 1,4

SELECTIONS: FEEL THE REIGN (6), HIGHVIEW HAMMER (4), ANIMADO (7), WRITTEN IN SILK (3)

RATINGS: 4,6/ 7/ 1,3

SUGGESTED BET: FEEL THE REIGN (6) each way

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: HILLTOP HUGH (4) remains undefeated in three starts to date and should prove hard to beat again. He hasn’t raced since July but should be reaching his peak form after having four recent trial efforts. BITTA IRISH LUCK (6) is dropping back in class on her recent Metropolitan performances and should improve on her numerical form. She defeated the classy mare Maoris Mac at a Melton victory back in June. DOSSIER (8) broke stride at the start and gave away many lengths when a big second behind Muskee at Cranbourne last outing. She has won five of her eleven starts at Kilmore previously and will take beating if she gives a fool proof display. LOCKSLEY CAVALIER (2) is a handy trotter when racing at his peak form and will be fitter after a recent trial fourth so he is worth an investment.

EARLY SPEED: 4 (likely leader), 2,6

SELECTIONS: HILLTOP HUGH (4), BITTA IRISH LUCK (6), DOSSIER (8), LOCKSLEY CAVALIER (2)

RATINGS: 4/ 6,8/ 2/ 3/ 1

SUGGESTED BET: HILLTOP HUGH (4) to win
