Superior Stride
RICKIE Alchin is already chasing more feature race success with his exciting young trotter Superior Stride.
Fresh from winning last Saturday night’s 3YO Trotters’ Foundation final at Menangle, Alchin will take the gelding to Brisbane to chase a spot in the $150,000 Group 1 Great Square at Albion Park on July 4.
Unless Superior Stride lands a slot in coming days, Alchin will try to impress for a berth through Saturday week’s Yabby Dams Stellar Square at Albion Park.
“He’s up to those races,” Alchin said. “He’s got really good gate speed and he’s the nicest juvenile trotter I’ve had in a while.”
Superior Stride, bred and owned by Emilio and Mary Rosati, is out of their formal star juvenile trotter Elite Stride, who has made a terrific impact at stud.
After showing glimpses at two, Superior Stride has returned with three wins, a fourth and a fifth in his runs this season.
“He’s getting better all the time. I really like him,” Alchin said.
Superior Stride gave nothing else a chance when he led and cleared out to win by 18.5m for driver Ash Delosa last Saturday night.
He posted a 1min58.2sec mile rate for 2300m and dashed home in 56.7 and 28.5sec.
It will be a huge step up should Superior Stride tackle the Great Square against star four-year-olds like Mecarno, Tracy The Jet and Jilliby Dreamlover.
