Well known Wagga horseman Roger Strong knows how to prepare a yearling for the sales.

Two years ago Roger prepped the Bettor’s Delight three-quarter brother to the great Leap To Fame who fetched the top price of $210,000 at the Australian Pacing Gold Melbourne yearling sale.

The colt was consigned by Sydney importer Glenn Holland, trading under the banner of Rampant Pty Ltd, who has nominated three yearlings for the APG Sydney sale at Warwick Farm on Sunday, March 15.

The trio are all being prepared by Roger and his partner Amanda Elliott, who manages the long established Riverina galloping nursery Riverdene Stud, Wagga.

“Amanda does most of the work with the yearlings. She puts the polish on them,” Strong said.

The Holland consignment includes two fillies by the successful colonial bred horse Tintin In America, the sire of the world’s fastest ever racemare Shartin 1:46.8 ($2.6 million).

Lot 280, the second foal of the young Art Major mare Gracious, is a real standout, according to Roger.

“She’s a real eye catcher,” he said.  “Her half-sister Rocknroll Grace won recently.”

Boasting a 3x4 cross to Falcon Seelster, the filly belongs to a top New Zealand family that has produced horses the calibre of Iraklis, Tuapeka Star, Lavros Star and Galactic Star.

The other ‘Tintin’ filly, Lot 257, is out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Accordingly, a half-sister to the Breeders Crown two-year-old champion and NSW Breeders Challenge 2YO Regional Championship victor Mac Bon.

“She’s a nice neat, compact filly,” Roger said.

The third member of the Holland entry is a colt from the first crop of the world champion, North America Cup winner and USA and Canadian 3YO Colt of the Year Pebble Beach.

Listed as Lot 272, the colt is the first foal of an unraced Bettor’s Delight daughter of the Victoria Gold Chalice winner Sparkling Tachyon and a member of the same maternal family as the outstanding Kiwi stayer Pembrook Benny ($907,000) and the Victoria Ladyship Cup winner Pembrook Caesar.

“He’s an athletic, precocious colt. He’s a very correct colt that’s got a bit of spirit about him,” Roger said.

Roger and Amanda are offering a striking colt themselves by the Australian 2YO Colt of the Year Be Happy Mach and the only progeny of the Mach Three horse in the Sydney sale.

Lot 268, the colt is the second foal of a 1:56 winning mare closely related to the APG two and three-year-old Final winner Croesus, the Nutrien Classic and Shakamaker Classic winner The Highlight Reel and the APG heat winner Joseph Farran.

“He’s a really nice individual. A big brute of horse whose got a bit of presence,” he said.
