He reached the highest heights of harness racing, pacing four of the nine fastest race miles in history including six victories in 1:45.8 to 1:46.8. He won 28 of his 37 lifetime starts and $2.4 million in stake money and was the first ever unanimous choice for USA Horse of the Year.

The horse in question of course is the mighty Bulldog Hanover, who is widely considered one of the greatest horses in the history of the harness turf.

Dexter Dunn, who drove Bulldog Hanover to many of his biggest triumphs, said: “He’s got unbelievable stamina – there is just no end to him. It’s amazing how good the horse was and how big a set of lungs he obviously has.”

Trainer Jack Darling said: “Somebody gave me the stat that there’s been 15 horses that have paced better than 1:47, but none of them have done it twice. He’s done it six times. He is a once-in-a-lifetime horse.”

Champion driver Jody Jamieson, who handled ‘Bulldog’ earlier in his career, stated: “He's just a great, big, strong, perfect individual.”

Bulldog Hanover will be singly represented at the Australian Pacing Gold Perth Yearling Sale at Magic Millions on Sunday by a filly from his first small ‘down under’ crop.

She is Lot 396, consigned by a syndicate headed up by prominent Perth owner Luke Tabbakh and prepared by Jeff Roberts at Westover Boutique Agistment, Benger.

The filly is the first foal of the Lincoln Royal mare Vive Damore, who was bought by Tabbakh for $10,000 at the WA yearling sales in 2016.

“She’s the best one I’ve ever raced,” Tabbakh said. “She was a very good mare.”

Vive Damore won 14 races including the Group 2 Christmas Gift and the Group 3 The Coulson and $247,595 in stakes and took a mile record of 1:55.

“Primarily I am a buyer but this filly ticks all the boxes. She’s a dark bay in colour and looks a lot like her mother,” Luke said.

“She’s got a bit of presence about her.”

Furthermore, the filly belongs to a family that has distinguished itself for producing outstanding juveniles in WA. It includes the WA Sires Stakes champion Chivalrous Fella and the Bathurst Gold Tiara, Vicbred and Breeders Crown winner Nemeeshar.
