Lot 374 - Sire: Poster Boy | Dam: Lady Gabbana

From world class racehorses and elite performance horses to tiny miniature ponies and even donkeys, Lancefield Park Stud, Boyanup has gained a solid reputation over 40 years as a leader in Western Australia for artificial reproduction and quality agistment.

The 60 acre farm is conducted by Lisa Adams, a qualified artificial insemination technician for 27 years, having studied in North America and Germany, and her husband Michael.

“We used to average 100 breedings per year but we are transitioning to retirement and are just breeding the horses on the property. Last year we bred 32 mares,” Lisa said.

Adams has been a longstanding supporter and preparer of yearlings for the standardbred and thoroughbred sales in Perth.

This year she is prepping five youngsters for various clients for the Australian Pacing Gold Perth Yearling Sale to be held at Magic Millions on Sunday, March 1.

Two of the Lancefield Park consignment represent well known industry figures but first time yearling sale vendors in Annie and Colin Belton and Jeff Whittaker.

The Belton’s, who hail from Banjup, have been breeding and training pacers for more than 20 years, having brought out the winners of more than 120 races.

They have entered a colt, Lot 374, by the 2024 leading first crop sire Poster Boy out of Lady Gabbana, the mare who gave Annie her first ever success as a trainer.

Lady Gabbana’s first foal, Gotta Go Gabbana, notched up 14 successes and $274,000 in stakes including the Group 1 WA Mares’ Classic and The Lombardo.

“He’s a strong type with good conformation. He’s got a double cross of Beach Towel and he’s from a proven cross with the Mach Three sireline,” Annie stated.

Annie and Colin are also offering a filly by the USA and Canadian 3YO Colt of the Year Pebble Beach with clients Gordon and Carol Day as Lot 318.

Sheza Mikimoto, the dam of the filly, retired due to injury at the end of her two-year-old campaign and this is her first foal. She belongs to the immediate family of the top flight performers Tricky Miki ($590,000), Soho Jackman ($360,000) and Orlando Blue ($340,000).

“She’s an athletic filly with good conformation and has demonstrated a good attitude to learn,” Gordon Day said. “She carries three crosses of Artsplace and two of Western Ideal.”

The other new vendor is Perth breeding enthusiast Jeff Whittaker, who has entered a filly by Poster Boy from the successful Bettor’s Delight mare Alex Pollizzi NZ as Lot 440. The mare is a daughter of the Group 2 NZ Southlands Oaks victor Mystic Gold and from the same family as the Inter Dominion champion Tiger Tara.

This is Alex Pollizzi’s third foal, the first being Simplythebest, a winner of four races to date, and the second having not raced due to a paddock injury.

“She’s a nice tall, strong filly with good conformation,” Lisa said.

Lot 411, a leggy colt by the champion sire Sweet Lou, is a half-brother to last season’s smart juvenile Conciliate, who won three of her nine starts and was placed in the NSW Pink Bonnet.

Patchmeup, the Somebeachsomewhere dam of the colt, is out of the NSW Oaks and APG Final winner Miss Hazel.

“Miss Hazel left an incredible 11 winners from 12 foals. Patchmeup was the only one that didn’t win as she lost an eye in an accident as a young foal,” breeder-vendor Harvey Kaplan said. “Renaissance Man and Louvre both belong to this family.

“This is the first time these bloodlines have been offered for sale in WA.”

Im Bella Jay, the first horse ever bred by Busselton breeder-owner Reece Kaptein and a dual Group 1 winner to boot, figures as the dam of Lot 421, a colt by the thrice Miracle Mile winner and Horse of the Year King Of Swing.

“He’s a well balanced, big, strong colt who has impressed with his visible presence and athletic movement. He represents the mare’s first male foal and shapes as a natural progression in her early breeding career,” Kaptein stated.

The youngster is a member of the same tribe that produced Shartin (1:46.8), the world mile record holder for mares and New Zealand’s equal fastest pacer of all-time.
