Super sire Always B Miki is not available to Australian breeders this stud season but Alabar Farms will give buyers the chance to buy superbly bred mare Capoeira, in foal the champion sire, in the APG Winter Mixed Online sale on August 15.
Always B Miki was injured near the end of the US stud season and will not be sent Downunder in 2025. He was booked out in Australia last season.
Progeny of the former world record holder have been on fire this season and it is a huge blow to Aussie breeders.
Impressive 4YO Mister Smartee (1.53.1, $1.2K) became Always B Miki’s highest Australian earner when he won the $1.2 million Nullarbor in April.
Exciting colts Always Hot (1.50.9. $258K) and Rubira (1.53.9, $366K) won the NSW and Queensland derbies respectively.
And comeback pacer Fighter Command (1.53.8, $152K) became the first finalist into the $2.1 million Eureka when he broke the track record in The Beautide in Hobart on August 2.
Capoeira (Lot 69) is by Somebeachsomewhere and has produced two winners from her first two foals.
She is out of US bred mare Freedom Dancer, who is a half sister to legendary racehorse and sire Art Major. This is also the maternal family of superstar sire Captain Treacherous.
Alabar stud principal Brett Coffey said Capoeira was a lovely mare and should get plenty of interest from buyers.
“We will offer 10 mares in the sale. They all have strong commercial bloodlines.
“We have quite a few horses racing and some mares soon to retire to stud, so we are resizing our broodmare band,” Coffey said.
“It is a good opportunity to offer quality mares to breeders just before the stud season.
“Capoeira is one of the highlights. She is in foal to Always B Miki and her first two foals are both winners.
“Her first foal, Bella Danza, won at Menangle in 1.51.2 on Saturday night and will continue to win more races. She is a nice mare.
“And Quintessa, who is also by Always B Miki, won her first three starts in WA and could develop into an Oaks filly.”
Coffey said he was also excited to offer three outstanding trotting broodmares – Miss Blissful (Lot 80), Aspiring Eva NZ (Lot 93) and Illawong Moonshine (Lot 103) – all in foal to $1.5 million earner Tactical Approach.
Miss Blissful (TR 1.58.4, $118K) is Group 1 placegetter from the family of Paramount Geegee (1.57.3, $497K).
Aspiring Gal has thrown five winners of almost $600,000, including Royal Aspirations (TR 1.56.5, $313K) and Breeders Crown winner Triumphant Monarch (TR 1.59.7, $161K).
Lunar Landing has thrown seven winners of more than $800,000 including Breeders Crown winner Spidergirl (TR 1.56.8. $317K) and Group 1 winner Illawong Armstrong (TR 1,56, $231K).
“I think these three mares offer a great opportunity for buyers to get into classic winning families and the first crop of Tactical Approach.”
