Flashy mare Wandary Splash is a young broodmare who won $150,000 on the racetrack and has already produced three 2YO winners, including 2024 Southern Star sales classic victor Toro Loco.

Her handsome Tiger Tara colt sold for $25,000 at this year’s APG Ipswich yearling sale and she is in foal to highly promising sire Ride High, who has already produced sales classic winning filly Delizioso (1.56.9, $101K) from his first 2YO crop this season.

So, if you’re looking to race or sell classic-winning 2YOs, this mare could be the way forward.

Wandary Flash, by Blissfull Hall, won 22 races and $158,000 and had 47 placings during her career. She took her lifetime mark of 1.52.7 at Albion Park in 2016.

She had an immediate impression in the breeding barn, producing three winners from her first three foals.

Her first foal, Wandary Delight (1.59.8, $20k), had a win and four placings as a 2YO and qualified for the $100,000 Qbred 2YO fillies final at Albion Park.

Her next foal, Splashndash (1.55.6, $40K), won the Qld Breeders Classic consolation at just his third start and finished fifth in the $150,000 2YO colts APG sales classic in July 2023.

But her Sportswriter colt Toro Loco really cemented Wandary Splash’s credentials when he took out the $125,000 Sunshine Stars 2YO colts final at Albion Park in November.

He won three races in his debut season and has returned with three seconds from four starts at Albion Park as a 3YO.

Wandary Splash, Lot 71, is one of three broodmares offered by respected nursery Burwood Stud in the APG Autumn Online Mixed Sale, running until Sunday (May 25).

The other two mares are Country Change, Lot 82, and well bred mare My Janes Cullen NZ, Lot 84, who is in foal to resident Burwood stallion Changeover.

Burwood Stud principal Noel Denning said Wandary Splash was a relaxed mare with commercial potential.

He said her Tiger Tara yearling colt was a standout this year.

Wandary Splash is a lovely mare to handle,” Denning said. “Her only three foals are all winners, with one to come (the Tiger Tara colt).

“We are pretty excited about him. He would do half an hour on the walker and just play the whole time. She has been a bit unlucky in the breeding barn, though.”

Another highly respected Qld nursery, Monarch Farm, will offer a strong draft of broodmares and a couple of yearlings as stud principals Margaret and Vic Donohoe look to wind back their workload after decades as a leading stud.

One of the potential standouts from the Monarch Farm draft is young mare as Lot 33,  Our Better Dancer, from the famed Under Cover Lover family, in foal to emerging superstar sire Poster Boy.

Our Bettor Dancer is by A Rocknroll Dance, a son of Rocknroll Hanover.

Poster Boy’s highest earner, The Highlight Reel (1.53.4, $311K), is out of a mare by Rocknroll Hanover.

The son of Somebeachsomewhere broke all records when he sired 23 winners from his first crop of 2YOs last year.

He now has 31 winners of almost $1 million in stakes and his yearlings are highly sought after at sales across Australia.

Our Bettor Dancer’s first foal, Ourbeachgirlmaywyn, has two placings from four 2YO starts this season, including a close-up third in a heat of the Qbred Breeders Classic at Albion Park on Tuesday. The $50,000 final will be held at Albion Park on May 31.

Our Bettor Dancer has a yearling colt by Captain Crunch USA and a weanling colt by Downbytheseaside to follow, which could make her a hot commercial proposition in a couple of years.

Another broodmare that should really peak buyers interest is 2YO-winning Art Major mare Reesy, Lot 26, who is in foal to former champion US 3YO Confederate (1.46.4, $2.1M).

It is the first crop of the superstar son of Sweet Lou, who became the fastest 3YO in history when he won the Breeders Crown final.

He also won the Meadowlands Pace and was named US 3YO, Pacer and Horse Of The Year in 2023.

Confederate stands at Cobbitty Farms in NSW for a service fee of $16,000 and got some of the cream of Australian broodmares in his first season. Breeders will get few chances to buy a mare in foal to this boom sire.

Reesy will be offered by prominent owner Tony Veivers, who also has Reesy’s dam, Lot 58, Bobbies Girl (in foal to Cannibal) and a yearling half sister as Lot 8 by McWicked in the sale.
