The first youngster in part three of the solo stars of the 2025 APG Perth Yearling Sale is an all-American bred colt who’s is related to a couple of millionaire pacers – one in the US and one bred in Australia.
He has interesting bloodlines with double crosses of super sires Artsplace, Western Ideal and Big Towner in his pedigree.
Lot 429 (Vendor – Maddy Young)
This colt is from the second crop of double Westbred stallion Captain Ahab from handy race mare Kirsten (1.59.8, $41K), who’s grandam Lily Pad is a half sister to two million-dollar earners, Hi Ho Silverheels (1.49.8, $1.2M) and Sting Lika Bee (1.55.8, $1M).
Their dam, American bred mare Armbro Caprice, foaled Lily Pad and Hi Ho Silverheels in the US and he won all his races on US tracks in the early 1990s.
She was exported to Australia in the mid-90s and foaled AG Hunter Cup winner Sting Lika Bee and his full brother Hesa Buzzin (1.55.4, $327K) Downunder.
This colt’s second dam, Lilianna Beauty (1.53, $135K), is a daughter of Lily Pad and was imported to Australia in the mid-2000s after a solid race career in the US.
She has produced APG 2YO fillies sales classic winner Tenniele Erin (1.55.1, $88K) and the WA Oaks placegetter Lion Queen (1.54.9, $59K).

Lot 433 (Vendor – Barry Howlett)
I think the big bidders will be coming for this superbly bred filly.
She is by mega sire Sweet Lou from quality race mare Purest Silk (1.55, $158K), who is by champion sire Rocknroll Hanover.
This is the golden cross, Sweet Lou over Rocknroll Hanover line mares, that has produced some of the greatest pacers of the last 10 years, including $2 million earner Confederate (1.46.4), the fastest 3YO of all time and Its My Show (1.46.8, $1.4M), the former 3YO record holder.
The cross also left 2YO colts Breeders Crown winner Louprint (1.48.8, $787K) and the fastest 2YO filly in the US last season Looksgoodinaloulou (1.48.6, $252K). Both are out mares by sons of Rocknroll Hanover.
And it is a strong filly family. Purest Silk won the Golden Girls Mile and the Race For Roses against the best mares in WA.
Her dam Veste (1.57.1, $106K) was a Group 1 2YO winner in NZ. Her grandam Coburg (1.56.8, $205K) won 10 races, including the G1 NZ Breeders Stakes and was named 2004 NZ pacing mare of the year.
Coburg is a half sister to superstar pacer Stunin Cullen (1.54.1, $1.5M), from the family of champion Il Vicolo ($1.5M).
Sweet Lou is the sire of Group 1 winning fillies/mares Steno ($512K), Water Lou ($422K), Double Expresso ($328K) and Zephyra ($320K) in WA.
