Buckskin broodmare at Tourello Standardbreds
Tourello Standardbreds is in the spotlight after White Lion claimed an impressive win at Mount Gambier. Sold through the APG sales to Mattie Craven, the striking palomino Standardbred triumphed on just his second outing!
Although Kerry doesn’t have any palomino youngsters in the 2025 APG Melbourne Yearling Sale, she will bring some interesting shades of solid colours – including a handsome buckskin colt, a grey filly and two chestnuts to the ring on February 2.
Hymers has the biggest draft in the sale, 10 yearlings in all.
Lot 65 is a buckskin colt by million-dollar earner Tell All from Luna Cat, who produced 2024 Vicbred 3YO trotting fillies finalist Ultimate Tess with her first foal.
The colt’s grandam, Vapar Raine (1.56.9), won six races as a 3YO, including the Terang Silver Vase.
It is the family of Bendigo Cup winner Aim First (1.59.7, $215K), who won 38 races – nine as a 2YO and 3YO.
Lot 5 is a grey filly by Downbytheseaside from Feelinkindasporty, who is a granddaughter of superstar mare Lombo Rapida (1.57, $790K).
Lombo Rapida was 1998 Aust 2YO filly of the year and went on to win the Victoria Oaks as a 3YO and the Chariots of Fire at 4.
Feelinkindasporty has already produced Tasmanian Golden Slipper finalist Feelinkindalucky with her first foal. He is a full brother to the 2025 filly.
The cross, DBTSS over a Sportswriter mare, has produced APG 2YO Gold Bullion consolation winner Cabana (1.52.2, $60K).
Lot 8 is another youngster who should attract plenty of attention. He is by boom sire Always B Miki from all-American bred mare Grand Times.
Grand Times is by mega sire Western Hanover from US Breeders Crown winner Headline Hanover (1.54.7, $524K).
Headline Hanover is a half-sister to legendary NZ sire Holmes Hanover. Her grandam is US 2YO filly of the year Hazel Hanover.
Hymers began breeding standardbreds as a teenager. She has built a formidable breeding operation with several stallions standing at stud and a big band of broodmares.
“My first standardbred I got when I was 10. She was the first mare I bred from,” Hymers said. “I have a selection of families I follow and once a mare becomes available, I quickly try and purchase her. I often approach the owners direct and wait for them to retire from racing or become available.
