LAST Friday night’s Newcastle meeting will be one to remember for 21-year-old Sydney reinsman Lucas Rando, who eclipsed any of his prior achievements when he landed four winners on the 10-race program.
With experience, Rando has continued to develop his skills in the gig, prompting trainers to use his services.
Friday’s results certainly consolidated that faith with Rando producing some perfect drives among his quartet of victories.
Two of those came from the stable of KerryAnn Morris, who currently leads the New South Wales trainers’ premiership, racking up 50 winners after just four months of the current term.
And the night could not have ended any better for Rando as he combined with his father James to complete his bag of winners with a family double.
“It certainly was a night I will long remember,” said Rando.
“Dad has been my biggest supporter since day one, and to be honest, I would have been over the moon had I just provided a double for him.
“But to add another two to my score for KerryAnn, was certainly most satisfying.
“KerryAnn is a superb trainer, evident by her consistent high standing each season in the state trainers’ premiership.
“And as for my dad, he puts in so much hard work to have his horses fit and spot-on when they go to the races.
“Both Dad and I became a little emotional when Seastorie was able to score.
“He has worked especially hard to get her back to the races after she went amiss a couple of times, so the victory is a real testament to the care he gave her and his patience.”
Rando won again with Seastorie at Menangle on Tuesday and heads back to Newcastle tonight for five drives.
