A NASTY fall just after the release of runners in Race 6 at Goulburn on Sunday afternoon has resulted in local reinsman Harry Ross sustaining a broken elbow which will sideline the rising star for up to three months.

In a simple racing incident, Ross was dislodged from the gig when driving Beer Money after he had restrained the gelding from a wide draw to take a sit at the same time as the Seaton Grima-driven Watch The Great One paced roughly, resulting in it losing balance and falling.

Ross could not avoid the trouble and was catapulted through the air, spearing him into the track.

The fall could not have come at a worse time for Ross, who has been driving in career-best form and has been in high demand at both regional and metropolitan meetings.

“Yeah, it is a massive disappointment for me, but I am thankful that Seaton and both of the horses that fell have come out of the mishap relatively unscathed,” said Ross.

“I have been getting a lot of nice drives of late and my injury has certainly halted my momentum.

“But I guess it is just part of what we do and there is always a bit of a risk.

“In hindsight, I am lucky that I came out of it better than I could have.”

Grima was cleared by doctors to return to driving yesterday, confirming that his injuries were minor.

Ironically, the 21-year-old enjoyed his best result at a metropolitan meeting on Saturday night at Tabcorp Park Menangle when he landed a winning treble.

That took his tally to 10 winners at headquarters this year and to 20 wins state-wide.
