Despite bringing up a hat-trick of consecutive victories, there is no rush to push the talented trotter All The Trix.
With seven wins and five placings from just 17 starts, All The Trix keeps stepping up but part-breeder-owner and trainer Claire Goble, from Wasleys, is in no hurry to push the four-year-old too soon.
The late Cups King thoroughbred trainer Bart Cummings once said his best training tool was patience, and that is something Goble does with her standardbred team.
All The Trix ($1.45 fav), driven by Ken Rogers, sat outside the speed for much of the race before drawing clear in the home straight to win the King Of The North USA Trotters Mobile (2230m).
He scored by 4-1/2 metres from Lady In The Sky ($10) with Illawong Moonbeam ($4.80), three metres away third.
Goble said there was no need to rush All The Trix.
“He is a big horse and we have deliberately brought him along slowly,” Goble said.
“We can see improvement in him each time he steps out and I think there is more to come. Let him tell us when he is ready for a bigger challenge.
“He stays well and can do a bit of work in his races.
“Early on he could gallop early but with racing and age he seems to have overcome that issue. Now, I would like to see him develop a bit more tactical speed.
“On Saturday, I liked the way he accelerated around the field to go and sit parked, so he is still improving.”
Goble said there was no hurry to head to Victoria, but the Redwood Day in October at Maryborough was a long-range possibility.
All The Trix continues a long association with Sydney-based enthusiast Paul Rofe which began about a decade ago with multiple winner Emilys Vacation.
They bred the gelding out of the well-bred mare Queens Vacation who is out of the stakes mare Queens Symphony.
Goble said they had a two-year-old filly out of Queens Vacation coming through by Father Patrick and a yearling colt by Majestic Son.
It was a huge night for Gawler-based Aaron Bain Racing, their partners Summit Bloodstock and a host of owners with a two-state double.
At Melton in Victoria, the group supplied the quinella in the Listed $250,000 Nutrien Equine Classic Two-Year-Old Fillies final (2240m) with Miss Australiana ($3.60 into $1.70 fav) beating Ivseenheavenslight ($3). Both fillies are trained by Clayton Tonkin.
Meanwhile, at Globe Derby Park, Miss Disturbia ($1.80 fav), also trained by Tonkin, and driven by Samantha Pascoe, won heat five of the SA BOTRA Kindergarten Series (1800m).
Aaron Bain, principal of Aaron Bain Racing, said ABR, Summit Bloodstock and a number of ABR owners had taken up an option to buy Miss Disturbia after originally leasing her after last year’s yearling sales.
“It was a great night, we enjoyed the celebrations with our ownership group but Sunday morning it was all about working towards the future,” Bain said.
“Miss Australiana has shown ability from the time she was broken in and the plan is to run her in the two-year-old features during the season.
“She will go to the paddock now, come back to the Gawler stables and we will work her up before sending her back to Clayton and Emma Stewart to be aimed at the Vicbred series.
“Miss Disturbia qualified here in Adelaide, was sent to Clayton a month ago, and returned for the Kindergarten series.”
Bain said the filly had stayed in Adelaide and would contest the $14,999 SA BOTRA Kindergarten Series Final (1800m) at Globe Derby Park on Saturday.
For Pascoe it was her second winner for the Tonkin/Stewart team.
“They sent a claimer Concealment across as a travelling company for the champion filly Encipher when she won the Allwood final in 2021,” Pascoe said.
“I picked up the drive on Concealment because of my concession claim and he was good enough to win so tonight makes it two from two for the stable.
“I did drive Miss Disturbia a bit when she was in work with Aaron (Bain) at Gawler, and she always showed nice speed but tonight I felt she had extra strength, and it was a pleasure to drive her.”
Pascoe had a Globe Derby Park double leading throughout on Cornish Smuggler ($3.30) in the Bianco Reinforcing Pace (1800m) for Victorian trainer Ash Warton.
Another Bain stable employee, Bernadette Page also had a double on Saturday night.
Page brought the Ray Holberton-trained Aces Daughter ($8.50) with a well-timed run to take out the Hygain Release Pace (2230m) beating the Claire Goble-trained Clarenden Express ($1.75 fav).
Later, Page scored on Moops ($1.28 fav) for Reeves Plains trainer Ryan Hryhorec in the SAHRC Members BBQ April 28th Pace (1800m).
Another driver with a double was the veteran Gaita Pullicino.
She lifted the Lui Trotta-trained Bay Boy Carter ($2.60 fav) to a last-stride win in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Pace (1800m), then had a more comfortable all-the-way win on Harry Ovens ($1.33 fav) for mentor Mario Borg in the Jive Café Pace (2230m).
