At five-years-old Miss High Fashion NZ made her debut yesterday at Pinjarra, and making it a winning start to her career, the Howlett family is confident she has the ability to go on with it.

With a tendon injury putting her career on hold as a youngster, Miss High Fashion NZ had a year off before it was then discovered she had bone chips that required removal, once again seeing the mare needing time off in the paddock to recuperate.

Monday’s dominating win saw Lewis lead all the way from barrier two, with the margin on the line 2.5m ahead of Dream Control, but those two runners finishing a whopping 54.6m ahead of the rest in 1:59:2 over the 2185m journey.

“Brett Mangos had her early and really liked her,

“She’s a beautiful horse, looks wise and personality, and has sass like any good mare,

“We’re hoping to get her through the ranks and try for the Mares’ Classics.” Part-owner Kate Howlett said.

By champion sire Art Major USA and out of Millwood Manhattan NZ, Miss High Fashion NZ is a half sister to Millwood Gucci NZ, who was also owned by the Howlett family, showed plenty of promise herself, with her racing manners ultimately letting her down. She was retired in mid-2021.

Purchased in the New Zealand Yearling Sales back in early 2019 by Howlett for $32,500, she is also the half-sister to $251,000 stake earner Kingslayer NZ who raced just 29 times before was sold to the USA in mid 2020 after a last start win at Gloucester Park for Team Bond and Bailey McDonough.

Re-named Hesa Kingslayer N, the 10-year-old has now won 22 races, his most recent in July this year at Tioga Downs.
