Two harness meetings will be run this weekend with Launceston kicking off on Friday night, followed by Hobart on Sunday evening. Mark Yole will be prominent across both and provides his weekly views in Make Your Mark.
Hobart Race 9 – 1. Buster William
Some very pleasing runs at his past couple by this old boy. Although he rises to the long trip here, he hasn’t had all that much luck. Last week he ran a fast-finishing fourth in a very slick 1:54 mile rate. He was held up until well into the straight and flashed home when eventually getting out. He ran the quickest last half of the night in 55.9 on a very chilly night.
He comes up with the plum pole draw here, he has the gate speed to lead and with nothing else having the form to take him on and finish off I should be able to dictate the tempo. If that eventuates, he should be going very close.
A very hard burn to find the front last time out where he ran a 26 first quarter which just told late. That was in the Launceston mile feature race. Here he drops drastically in class, except for Kosimo. This stable is airborne at the moment, and I think he will be winning. I think there is sufficient gate speed inside him so if I was driving him, I wouldn’t be getting into any wars early and just summing up the situation and coming with a run when needed.
Launceston Race 5 – 3. Carols Judge
A very good effort in Launceston last week in a much stronger race has made me put this mare in as the value runner for the weekend. She showed good gate speed to lead on that occasion and ran along at a good tempo and took quite a bit of catching behind two promising mares. I think she can show that gate speed again here and possibly lead again. If she does that, I think she will be in the winners stall.
Hobart Race 5 – 10. Spooky Girl
A bit unlucky at her past two this filly, she did string back-to-back wins together before that in weaker class. She then drew horribly in the Trainers Encouragement Final where I thought her run was great for fourth. Then last week she drew seven and got caught wide and I elected to press on to find the spot outside the leader. They ran along at a nice clip, but she just got tired up the straight. This is a slightly easier race, but she does have a second-row draw. If I’m able to work into the race and save her up to use her good sprint, I think she will give a good sight.
Hobart Race 7 – 2. Seal The Destiny
A very consistent customer this fellow. He doesn’t really run a bad race. I was quite happy with his second last start where he sustained a three-wide run from the 700m mark and was just beaten by a better horse on the night. He is much better when able to lead, he has great gate speed so if I did happen to zoom across early, he would be very hard to beat. In saying that though, if I am unable to find the top, I should settle handy so he will be right in the money.
