Race 1:
OVERVIEW: GYM QUEEN (4) lost her chance after breaking stride on the first turn at Kilmore on Wednesday night. She was placed at her previous seven starts and she has the early speed to gain a prominent position in the early stages so she is worth another chance. RIPPING RONALDO (8) has the talent to break his Maiden status but he is still learning. He has broken stride in all of his three starts to date so he must be taken on trust but he will take beating if he delivers a fool proof display. SPESHAL (2) raced without cover in the early stages, pushed forward to find the lead at the 1500m and battled on fairly well for third at Charlton last outing. She has been placed in three of her past four starts and is drawn to go well again. KYVALLEY JOKER (5) finished off reasonably well for third at Maryborough two starts ago then broke stride and lost his chance at Charlton. He is worth thought in a tricky race to open proceedings.
SELECTIONS: GYM QUEEN (4), RIPPING RONALDO (8), SPESHAL (2), KYVALLEY JOKER (5)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: IMALLATTITUDE (3) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished off boldly for a game second behind Presidentialchange at Horsham on June 22. He has been promising a win for some time and he strikes a suitable assignment now. MACHFREDDY (2) settled three back on the markers but was checked on the final corner and lost his chance at Echuca on Wednesday. He was placed at Mount Gambier prior after finding the lead and he should find a prominent position again here from his good draw. ALL DONE TARA (8) attempted to lead throughout and was run down late when fourth behind Alloa at Kilmore last outing. She finished off well for second behind Reign Em In prior and she should be competitive against this line up. FIRESIDE (7) possesses early speed and is better than his form reads. He is a possible improver under these conditions. TYPHOON (1) is a debutante for trainer Tyrone Abela, which has been unplaced in two recent trial performances but must be kept safe from the perfect draw.
SELECTIONS: IMALLATTITUDE (3), MACHFREDDY (2), ALL DONE TARA (8), FIRESIDE (7)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: TICTOK (8) has been racing against stronger opposition and should prove hard to beat if she can step away safely from the standing start. She finished third behind Pinnie when taking on the open class at Melton last outing. FREMARKS PEGGY (3) is stepping up in grade but is racing in career best form and has been very good from the standing start recently. She commenced from the handicap of 10m, left a trailing position to move up without cover from the bell and proved to be too strong at Maryborough last outing. EL CONQUEROR (4) has been starting from big handicaps recently and appears to be much better placed from the front line. He is a multiple Country Cups winner from the standing start so a bold showing is expected. WATCH AND ACT (1) is a swift beginner and has been placed at his past eight attempts so he is worth a ticket each way.
BACK: TICTOK (8) – 1.5 units (each way)
SELECTIONS: TICTOK (8), FREMARKS PEGGY (3), EL CONQUEROR (4), WATCH AND ACT (1)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: DELIGHTFUL MIKI (3) is a very smart mare, which was resuming since December when she raced without cover throughout and won comfortably at Shepparton. She should be even better from that run and will prove hard to beat again. JUST PEDRO (1) settled in a rearward position (1-5), attempted to trail forward out three horses wide in the final circuit then switched back to the inner and finished fast when a close second behind I’m Wesley last week. He is perfectly drawn and should go well again. CELESTIAL ZODIAC (8) settled five back on the markers, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 500m mark and finished off well for second behind Our Ultimate Gracy last outing. He should gain an economical run from the trailing draw and is worth a ticket each way. SAVON DE ROCHE (7) has been freshened since a sixth at Melton in May but she was very good at a Maryborough trial on Sunday, where she was able to gun down the open class pacer Rackemup Tigerpie. She is poorly drawn first up but she has the ability to feature prominently.
BACK: DELIGHTFUL MIKI (3) – 3 units (win)
SELECTIONS: DELIGHTFUL MIKI (3), JUST PEDRO (1), CELESTIAL ZODIAC (8), SAVON DE ROCHE (7)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: CHAMPAGNES (2) was heavily supported ($1-45 fav) and finished in third at Maryborough last outing after racing fiercely in the leading role. She is drawn to find the lead again and the drop back in distance is in her favour so she should prove hard to beat. WALKIN UNDERSTARZ (6) gained a nice trail, switched back to the inner turning for home and battled on fairly well for second behind Aldebaran Jazmine last outing. She has been runner up in three of her past four starts against similar grade and should be finding the line well. SHEZALOVER (7) gained a nice trail and appeared to have her chance when fifth behind Apex at Ballarat last outing but she won nicely at her previous two attempts. She is poorly drawn but has the ability to figure in the finish. RASTAMON (9) ran a strong race after parking without cover throughout at his latest second and is not without a chance. PATNWILL (3) is a fast beginner and should be close to the speed throughout. He set up a very slow tempo in the lead and was run down late by Money Talks at Kilmore on Wednesday night.
SELECTIONS: CHAMPAGNES (2), WALKIN UNDERSTARZ (6), SHEZALOVER (7), RASTAMON (9)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: MISTER DEVEREAUX (4) has returned from a spell in good form with two seconds followed by a runaway victory at Bendigo. He is stepping up from the Maiden class but he is a progressive type and looms as a strong winning chance again. RIDETHELIGHTNING (1) broke stride when leaving the back straight and made up many lengths at the end when an unlucky fourth ($2-15fav) at Geelong last outing. He has made a few errors recently but he will prove hard to beat if he is able to deliver a fool proof display. REVERAND BOB (5) was able to lead throughout when he defeated MISS KOMMUNICATION (6) at Kilmore then followed with a strong second after working hard at Bendigo. He is building up a consistent record and should run his usual honest race. SOLOTREKK (7) was heavily supported at his first run since November and finished off stylishly to get up in the last stride at Bendigo. He should have benefited from his first up victory and must be considered as a winning chance again.
BACK: MISTER DEVEREAUX (4) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: MISTER DEVEREAUX (4), RIDETHELIGHTNING (1), REVERAND BOB (5), SOLOTREKK (7)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: MYRTLE MAY (3) trailed the leader from the pole position and held her own in the straight when second behind Sporting Rage at Charlton last week. This is her easiest assignment for some time and she is capable of going one better now. WHENIMREADY (5) has shown brilliant gate speed at his past two attempts and is likely to find the lead again. He was run down over the latter stages but battled on well for second behind Keayang Viper at Mount Gambier last outing and is one of the leading chances again. QUICK CRUNCH (6) has struck peak form having won at her past two starts with her latest victory being at Ballarat, where she led and dashed home in a slick last half of 56.5 seconds. This is a race of more depth but she is worth thought again. THELONGROADOFHOPE (8) and BLUE CANNON (11) are both capable of showing up without surprising.
BACK: MYRTLE MAY (3) – 1 unit (each way)
SELECTIONS: MYRTLE MAY (3), WHENIMREADY (5), QUICK CRUNCH (6), BLUE CANNON (11)
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: MEZZANOTTI (4) is resuming since a fourth in the Southern Cross Final at Globe Derby in December, where she was inconvenienced at the start then moved up without cover shortly afterwards. She performed well at her first season of racing and appears to have a promising future. DON CRUNCH (7) settled down in last position, gave the leaders a big start and made ground when a creditable fifth at Charlton last outing. He is widely drawn but he should be fitter from that performance and should give a bold showing. MAGELLAN (11) is resuming since April but she was racing in good form at the end of her last preparation and she has performed well at the trials with a second at Maryborough so she must be respected. COCOSWORLD (6) battled on strongly after racing on the outside of the leader throughout at his latest second so he is worth an investment. BUNGY (9) began quickly to find the lead and ran along at a genuine tempo when he scored at Kilmore last outing. This is a race of more depth but he is worth thought again.
SELECTIONS: MEZZANOTTI (4), DON CRUNCH (7), MAGELLAN (11), COCOSWORLD (6)
