Astormzabrewen broke through for her maiden win in Launceston last Sunday, and returns to the same venue on Friday night, where the three-year-old daughter of The Storm Inside will contest a no-more-than-one-lifetime-win pace over 2200m.
The filly, who has also been placed in five of her 10 starts, is one of two that trainer Samantha Freeman has in work. She bred the filly and races the pacer along with her mother, Sue.
“I don’t think she’s put in a bad run. She was a victim of circumstances, two runs where she had no luck,” said the trainer.
Samantha said last week’s win was rewarding, with the filly being out of Hope Floats, who was trained by her late father, Barry.
“A hundred per cent (it was rewarding). She is not the easiest horse to train. Plus, it’s always good to get a winner for your mother; that’s for sure.
“Mark (Yole, who drove last start) said he just doesn’t think the penny has dropped. She sort of seemed to wait for them, and then when they looked like they were going to go straight past her, she dug deep.
Freeman indicated the filly will have a few more starts before a short break ahead of the Bandbox for the Tasbred three-year-old fillies later in the year.
Astormzabrewen will start from inside the second row for her race on Friday, where Jordan Chibnall will take the drive.
“Obviously, Schwarz is the one to beat, but you would hope that she would be competitive. You would hope that she would run a place with a bit of luck from the draw.
“She has pulled up a treat. You wouldn’t know she had raced on Sunday,” the trainer added.
Freeman is also involved in ownership across the other two racing codes, including the Leon Laskey-trained galloper Striding Bay, who will race in Devonport on Sunday afternoon.
At the time of writing, Friday’s eight-race card commences at 17:09 and will be televised on Sky Racing 2.
