Race 1:

OVERVIEW: BET BET HOTSHOT (7) was held up for a run at a vital stage and worked through the middle late when third at Bendigo on Wednesday night. He is poorly drawn but is racing well enough to be competitive against this line up. MAJOR MAX (8) will prove hard to beat on his best behaviour but he has been making a lot of errors recently. His victory over Kalarney Prince at Bendigo on April 08 is a good form pointer for this event. NEDZA THRILLER (2) secured his first win from 74 starts at Ballarat on Thursday night and he regularly runs in the top four against this class. He might be able to find his favourite position of being behind the leader from his good draw and has claims again. LAVENGERS BOY (1) and PLAYA DEL CARMEN (4) both are capable of showing up without surprising.

SELECTIONS: BET BET HOTSHOT (7), MAJOR MAX (8), NEDZA THRILLER (2), PLAYA DEL CARMEN (4)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: TORQUE IN HEAVEN (6) is a maiden from 23 starts but he has been placed in two of his three attempts since resuming and he produced a good performance after racing without cover throughout at his latest second. His latest effort was encouraging and this race is no harder. THE DEMOCRAT (8) trailed the leader and missed out narrowly when third at Charlton then made ground from the back of the pack at his latest fourth. He is awkwardly drawn but must be kept safe. HESTON CASH (5) performed below expectations when seventh at Bendigo last outing but he does appear to be well graded against this line up and is worth another chance. REASON TO LAUGH (9) was placed behind Wow You Can Dance (won twice again since) at Bendigo three starts ago and should gain an economical run from the trailing draw so he is not without a chance.

SELECTIONS: TORQUE IN HEAVEN (6), THE DEMOCRAT (8), HESTON CASH (5), REASON TO LAUGH (9)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: FIVE CENT (7) lacks high speed but is very strong and should make his presence felt. He was headed off at the start after commencing from the pole position and didn’t have much luck at his latest fourth behind Isthisthereallife at Horsham last week. He raced out three horses wide for the entire journey and did well to finish as close as he did when ninth (7m) prior. KYRGIOS (6) was doing his best work at the end when a handy fourth at Bendigo last outing. He was a winner at Bendigo on May 27 and looms as a winning chance again. HIGHVIEW HAMMER (8) began fast from the outside of the front row to find the position behind the leader and sprinted quickly at the end to win at Shepparton last outing. He drops back to the second line now but he is worth thought again. PRETTY POOR (1) is a juvenile gelding by Always B Miki making his debut. He is meeting proven race winners but his two trial efforts have been sound and he is drawn to receive an economical trip.

BACK: FIVE CENT (7) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: FIVE CENT (7), KYRGIOS (6), HIGHVIEW HAMMER (8), PRETTY POOR (1)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: JUST ME AND YOU (9) raced outside of the leader throughout and went down narrowly when runner up behind Cudgee Breeze at his second run since coming from New South Wales. This race is no harder and he is capable of going one better. KICKABARREL (7) was on his best behaviour at Horsham and worked to the front early before being run down over the final stages. He has always shown enough ability to be able to break his maiden status and he strikes a suitable field now. I AM SKYE CHIOLA (10) pressured the leader for the majority of the trip and fought on well for third at Horsham last outing. She has performed well in several races of this standard recently so she is not without a chance. SPESHAL (6) was placed at Stawell two starts ago then was doing her best work late when fifth last outing. She is capable of running into a place again.

SELECTIONS: JUST ME AND YOU (9), KICKABARREL (7), I AM SKYE CHIOLA (10), SPESHAL (6)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: MUSELET (1) is perfectly drawn and will appreciate a significant drop back in class for this assignment so he should prove hard to beat. He led out then took cover when fifth (5m) behind the smart pacer Sols Me Name at Geelong last outing and was a winner via sprint lane at Geelong on May 22. GOOD DAY (9) gained a nice run on the markers and worked into a distant second last outing. Considering the final half was run in a sensational 53.8 seconds, his effort was very good and he should take beating under these conditions. IM WESLEY (7) has been placed in nine of his past ten starts and fought on bravely after enduring a tough trip when second at Wagga last outing. The wide draw is a disadvantage but he is racing too well to dismiss.  JUST PEDRO (8) is likely to gain an economical trip from the trailing draw and is racing well enough to figure in the finish.

BACK: MUSELET (1) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: MUSELET (1), GOOD DAY (9), IM WESLEY (7), JUST PEDRO (8)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: QUEEN KIZEN (10) has a good record from the standing start having a win and two seconds from four attempts. She ran a game race from the handicap of 30m when second in the Warragul Cup two starts ago and she should be very competitive under these conditions. FREMARKS PEGGY (7) is racing in career best form having won six races for the season and she dominated her rivals at Horsham last outing. This is a race of more depth but she has been performing well from the standing start and looms as one of the leading chances again. WATCH AND ACT (5) is a swift beginner from the standing start and is racing consistently having been placed at his past six attempts. He led early then took cover and was shuffled back on the markers mid-race when a handy finishing third behind Rocky Valley at Bendigo last outing so he is worth a ticket each way. EL CONQUEROR (12) commenced from the massive handicap of 50m in the Warragul Cup and did well to work into a distant fourth. He moves forward to start from the handicap of 30m now and he boasts a strong standing start record so he is not without a chance.

BACK: QUEEN KIZEN (10) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: QUEEN KIZEN (10), FREMARKS PEGGY (7), WATCH AND ACT (5), EL CONQUEROR (12)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: BETTORPATCHMEUP (7) is poorly drawn but will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment. He attempted to lead throughout when a game third behind the smart pacer Le Cardinal at Terang two starts ago. IMALLATTITUDE (3) was held up for a run at a vital stage and stormed home late when a close second at Horsham last outing. He missed out narrowly at Charlton prior and he deserves to break through for a win. DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (4) worked early then gained a trail mid-race when he chased hard to defeat Rockin Charmer at Charlton. He raced without cover throughout when a close up fifth at Horsham last outing and should give another forward showing in this event. KIMCHI (5) had no room in the straight and appeared to have something in reserve when an unlucky eighth at Bendigo on Wednesday night. She is racing better than her form reads and is not without a chance.

BACK: BETTORPATCHMEUP (7) – 1 unit (each way)

SELECTIONS: BETTORPATCHMEUP (7), IMALLATTITUDE (3), DANCEBYTHESEASIDE (4), KIMCHI (5)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: ALDEBARAN JAZMINE (11) performed below expectations when a distant sixth at her first run since a fifth in the New South Wales Oaks. She was trotting in very good form prior to her Sydney trip and she is worth another chance against this line up. BOUTIKA (10) will appreciate a decent drop back in class on her recent Metropolitan performances at Melton and is capable of improving on her numerical form. WALKIN UNDERSTARZ (9) was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished quickly when an eye-catching at Ballarat two starts ago. She failed to run on as expected when fifth at Charlton last outing but she has the ability to feature prominently. SONNYBOY (2) was able to finish off best on a wet track at Kilmore last outing. He is a strong front running trotter and is drawn to give a forward showing.

SELECTIONS: ALDEBARAN JAZMINE (11), BOUTIKA (10), WALKIN UNDERSTARZ (9), SONNYBOY (2)
