Race 1:
OVERVIEW: NUGGET ROGERS (2) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and should give a bold showing. He has been placed at both of his Mildura attempts previously and his close third behind Sharp Interest in a mile rate of 1.56.0 at Shepparton three starts ago is a good form pointer for this event. AVOCA BLUES (1) is a fast beginner and is a short course specialist. He had no luck after being out three horses wide early and being restrained to a rearward position last week and he is much better drawn for this assignment. WIPEOUT (7) is resuming since December but he was aggressively driven and battled on well at the trials last week so he should be close to his peak form. He has the perfect trailing draw behind AVOCA BLUES (1) and should receive an economical trip. THEBUCKSONYOU (4) bounced back to winning form when he gunned down Ruggards Gee Tee at Mildura on May 29 and is worth a ticket each way despite rising in class.
SELECTIONS: NUGGET ROGERS (2), AVOCA BLUES (1), WIPEOUT (7), THEBUCKSONYOU (4)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: SPORTSBOU (1) settled midfield and held her ground when ninth in the Winter Series at Melton on Saturday night. She will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and will take beating if she can hold a forward position at the start. LETSGO BIG GIRL (5) set up a genuine tempo in the lead and was run down late by Tough Aint Enough when a creditable second at Mildura last outing. She tends to perform best on the Mildura circuit and another bold showing is expected. MAGGACIS (2) settled in the second half of the field and did well to finish a close up fourth at Mildura last week. He is versatile and is racing in the peak of form so he warrants consideration. RIO ROCK (7) will appreciate a slight drop back in class for this assignment and she has claims from the trailing draw. LOUIEVILLE (3) is capable of showing up without surprising.
SELECTIONS: SPORTSBOU (1), LETSGO BIG GIRL (5), MAGGACIS (2), RIO ROCK (7)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: IMA ROCKET MAN (1) settled midfield on the markers after commencing from the inside of the second line, was held up for a run at a vital stage and finished fast when an unlucky second behind Starzzzofterry at his debut performance. He is much better drawn for this assignment and he is worth following. LOOK AT HER (9) has performed very well at her three starts for trainer Sam Barker and should take beating at her Mildura debut. She held the lead from the pole position and set up a genuine tempo when fourth at Charlton last outing. SWEET LUCY LOU (12) was runner up three times in succession before enduring a tough run and finishing in fourth ($1-90 fav) at Mildura last week. She has ability and is nearing her Maiden success. SANTA CASA LEVI (6) and MAXI ANGEL (7) are both worth thought in multiple combinations.
BACK: IMA ROCKET MAN (1) – 1.5 units (each way)
SELECTIONS: IMA ROCKET MAN (1), LOOK AT HER (9), SWEET LUCY LOU (12), MAXI ANGEL (7)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: BOND GIRL (8) overcame a tough run when she remained strong at the finish and defeated her stable mate THE REGULATOR (6) at Geelong. She is racing in career best form and looms as one of the leading chances again. THE REGULATOR (6) followed his second behind BOND GIRL (8) with a classy victory at Charlton, where he produced a big finish. He is poorly drawn but is racing well enough to figure in the finish. THE IRISHMAN (3) left a trailing position to move up without cover and peaked late when seventh at Charlton last outing. He ran a game race for second at Stawell three starts ago and is not without a chance from his good draw. MEGAWATTS (7) met a stronger field at Bendigo when eighth (7m) on June 17. He should strip fitter from that performance and is capable of improving on his numerical form.
BACK: BOND GIRL (8) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: BOND GIRL (8), THE REGULATOR (6), THE IRISHMAN (3), MEGAWATTS (7)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: PRIDDY CARSON (10) settled in the second half of the field and produced a big finish when a close second behind Rubbleonthedouble last week. He would have won in another stride and he has been promising a win for some time against this class so he is worth an investment. RED HOT MIKI (1) was heavily supported the last time he drew on the pole position but he ruined his chances with a poor getaway. He is racing better than his form reads and gets his chance to improve on his numerical form. LOSEASHOE (2) began brilliantly from a wide draw to find the lead, ran along at a genuine tempo and won well at Mildura on May 15. He hasn’t been able to find the front at his past four attempts but he is a good chance of leading under these conditions so he might be able to return to winning form. ROJENBYE (7) will gain an economical trip from his trailing draw and should be finishing off strongly.
BACK: PRIDDY CARSON (10) – 1 unit (each way)
SELECTIONS: PRIDDY CARSON (10), RED HOT MIKI (1), LOSEASHOE (2), ROJENBYE (7)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (8) made a big impression at his first run for trainer Alex Ashwood as he pushed forward to find the lead from a wide draw and dashed well clear of his rivals to win by over thirty metres. He was clearly the best performer out of the heats last week and a repeat effort will see him being hard to beat again. WATCH IT HAPPEN (4) pushed forward to find the lead and performed below expectations ($1-15 fav) in his heat performance last week. He finished a game second behind WOW YOU CAN DANCE (8) at Bendigo on May 27 and he is a strong chance of filling the Quinella position again. SNEAKY PHILTRA (5) ran home well from midfield when a distant second last week. She should be reaching her peak form after having three starts back from a break and is a place chance again. WHITEHAVEN BEACH (9) produced a career best performance to win his heat last week but his mile rate was virtually three seconds or over forty metres slower to the time set by WOW YOU CAN DANCE (8). He is also a minor place hope along with BIG BAD CHAD (10).
BACK: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (8) – 3 units (win)
SELECTIONS: WOW YOU CAN DANCE (8), WATCH IT HAPPEN (4), SNEAKY PHILTRA (5), WHITEHAVEN BEACH (9)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: EMMA ROX (12) won the Homegrown Classic at the end of last season and is resuming since recording successive Melton victories in January. She is poorly drawn but she was in great form when she was last in work and will take beating if she is somewhere near her peak. VINNY ROCK (10) will appreciate a drop back in class for this assignment and won at his only attempt at Mildura previously. He recorded a slick mile rate of 1.56.7 when he scored at Terang on May 18 and will be competitive against this line up. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (1) is stepping up in class for this assignment but he is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. He led throughout and held off the late challenge of Priddy Carson to win last week. G B BRAVE (6) has had a horror run with the barrier draw but he continues to perform extremely well at Mildura. He is worth thought along with RUGGARDS GEE TEE (11), which faces a negative swing with the barrier draw but is racing well enough to complete a hat trick of wins.
SELECTIONS: EMMA ROX (12), VINNY ROCK (10), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (1), G B BRAVE (6)
