VENUE: Mildura
DATE: 05/06/26
Race 1:
OVERVIEW: HESASTAR (6) is yet to win in sixteen starts for the season but he gets his opportunity under these conditions. He pushed forward to race without cover when a game third behind No Emotion (won again since) then he endured a similar trip when fifth last week. He is more versatile than most in this event and should prove hard to beat. CORNELIA (4) has been safely held at her past three attempts but she found the front and scored under similar conditions on April 11 so she looms as the logical danger. TRYAGAINFREDDY (5) met a very strong field when unplaced behind Happily at Horsham last outing and is likely to find this event to be more suitable. He used the perfect trailing draw to his advantage when he trailed the leader throughout and won at Mildura on April 17. GROVE DALE (1) has been run down in the leading role at his past two attempts but he was placed at his previous two attempts and should adopt his usual front running role again from the pole position.
SELECTIONS: HESASTAR (6), CORNELIA (4), TRYAGAINFREDDY (5), GROVE DALE (1)
Race 2:
OVERVIEW: ROCKING WROXTON (2) is a fast beginner and is a good chance of finding the lead over the sprint distance. He had little luck in obtaining a clear passage when third behind Our Master Play then followed with a second placed effort last week. SNEAKY PHILTRA (1) performed only fairly at the trials on Monday night where she finished second after trailing the leader but she might end up being behind the leader again here and she would have benefited from the outing. She is resuming since a third at Ararat in November, where she attempted to lead throughout. PUNTO CALIENTE (4) settled in the second half of the field and worked home well for third at Mildura seven days ago. He is racing consistently against this grade and is one of the leading chances again. APOLOGY ACCEPTED (7) will be relying on SNEAKY PHILTRA (1) holding a forward position at the start but is racing well enough to figure in the finish.
SELECTIONS: ROCKING WROXTON (2), SNEAKY PHILTRA (1), PUNTO CALIENTE (4), APOLOGY ACCEPTED (7)
Race 3:
OVERVIEW: NO GOOD REASON (1) led and disappointed at her Mildura debut but she was a big winner at the trials prior and her form in New South Wales including a fifth in a heat of the Bathurst Gold Tiara was sound so she is obviously capable of better. The drop back in distance will be an advantage. SANTA CASA LEVI (5) had little luck after being caught wide early when third as favourite at her latest attempt. She should continue to improve with the benefit of experience and must be considered as one of the leading chances. MACHFREDDY (3) battled on fairly well after gaining a nice trip when second at his Mildura debut. He should be suited against this opposition and is worth a ticket each way. SURETHING (2) is a juvenile filly for trainer John Tormey that will improve on her first up fifth and THE NINJA (4) looked sharp at his all of the way trial victory on Monday night.
SELECTIONS: NO GOOD REASON (1), SANTA CASA LEVI (5), MACHFREDDY (3), SURETHING (2)
Race 4:
OVERVIEW: ROCKNMASEY (3) is a South Australian trained colt, which is making his debut on the back of a win and two seconds at the trials. He strikes a suitable assignment first up and must be respected. RAGING DAISY (1) possesses early speed and is drawn to receive an economical trip over the sprint distance. She had her chance first up but she will have improved with the experience. MAXI ANGEL (4) battled on well after doing some work in the run last week. He has shown promise at his four starts to date and must be included amongst the leading chances. ALWAYS BENEFITS (5) and STARZZZOFTERRY (9) both have claims in a race, where most of the main hopes haven’t had much race experience.
SELECTIONS: ROCKNMASEY (3), RAGING DAISY (1), MAXI ANGEL (4), STARZZZOFTERRY (9)
Race 5:
OVERVIEW: GUEST ARTIST (1) was beaten by ODINS BLACK CROWS (2) last week but the barrier draw is reversed this afternoon so he is capable of turning the tables. He competed at Metropolitan level at his Victorian debut and he did well for second last week after beginning from the inside of the second line. YAPPER (7) has the perfect trailing draw behind GUEST ARTIST (1) and should go well. He was placed in a slick mile rate of 1.54.3 after trailing the leader at Shepparton on May 19. ODINS BLACK CROWS (2) began quickly and ran along at an even tempo when he scored on Friday. He might not be able to find the lead here but another bold showing is expected. LITTLE WONDER (3) is racing in career best form and battled on strongly for third after working hard in the run last week. She recorded a mile rate of 1.55.5 when she scored at Wagga prior and she should be prominent throughout from her good draw.
BACK: GUEST ARTIST (1) – 2 units (win)
SELECTIONS: GUEST ARTIST (1), YAPPER (7), ODINS BLACK CROWS (2), LITTLE WONDER (3)
Race 6:
OVERVIEW: The battle for early supremacy will be a key to the result with three of the major chances being drawn in one, two and three. SANTA CASA BEACH (2) is a genuine front runner and will clearly be the horse to beat if he can get to his favourite role shortly after the start. Three of his past four starts have been in the Mildura, Ouyen and Robinvale Cups so he has been racing against top grade from poor barriers. PRIORITISE (1) has been placed at his past four attempts and he finished off strongly from the second half of the field when second behind POWEROFPERSUASION (8) last week. He attempted to lead throughout at Metropolitan level when third at Melton three starts ago. MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (6) is poorly drawn again but he continues to race in great form. He was never a chance in a very slowly run Maryborough Cup on Sunday and chased hard when second in the Robinvale Cup prior. ALL DA RAGE (3) was disappointing at Mildura last week but he led throughout when an impressive winner at Globe Derby prior and is worth another chance.
BACK: SANTA CASA BEACH (2) – 1.5 units (each way)
SELECTIONS: SANTA CASA BEACH (2), PRIORITISE (1), ULTIMATE JIMMY (6), ALL DA RAGE (3)
Race 7:
OVERVIEW: It is an intriguing race with many different form lines coming into it. OWEN THE SAINTS (11) has finished off solidly at his past two starts in good grade at Shepparton and Bendigo so he warrants respect. RUGGARDS GEE TEE (2) was heavily supported for his return to trainer Alex Ashwood but he raced greenly in the leading role and was run down in the straight. He has had a win and a second from two Mildura attempts and is drawn to go well again. WHENIMREADY (5) tried to sustain a long run in the final lap when a handy third at his Mildura debut and should run his usual honest race. BAZZAS LEGACY (4) won a trial at Mildura on Monday night leading up to his resumption. RUN AMUCK (1) and HARLEM TOWN (7) are coming across from South Australia, SEASIDE SHOW (6) competed in a strong race at Horsham last week and EXCELZIOR (8) has ability but hasn’t raced for over a year.
SELECTIONS: OWEN THE SAINTS (11), RUGGARDS GEE TEE (2), WHENIMREADY (5), BAZZAS LEGACY (4)
Race 8:
OVERVIEW: SENNA STORM (4) joins trainer John Tormey and should make his presence felt at his local debut. His second behind Animado at Melton in a mile rate of 1.56.0 on April 15 is a good form pointer to this event. ONLY ONCE BITTEN (8) progressed forward from the outside of the front line to find the lead and was gunned down in the last stride when second behind Glitzy All Over last week. She ran a handy second behind Loseashoe prior and is worth thought again. WATCH YOUR BACK (7) is a former Queensland pacer, which led throughout to win at Shepparton when making his Victorian debut. He faces a negative swing in the barrier draw but is worth thought again. G B BRAVE (10) has had one win and five seconds from six starts at Mildura so he has done a terrific job since joining trainer Kate Attard. He hasn’t raced for a month but he is versatile and should be finding the line well.
BACK: SENNA STORM (4) – 1 unit (each way)
SELECTIONS: SENNA STORM (4), ONLY ONCE BITTEN (8), WATCH YOUR BACK (7), G B BRAVE (10)
Race 9:
OVERVIEW: MISTER BOOMBASTIK (9) has performed exceptionally well from similar bad barrier draws over the past two weeks and should take beating. He was very unlucky in the Mildura Guineas last season and he has returned from a break in peak form. LOCHINVAR HAWK (8) was a strong winner at Mildura three starts ago and has performed well in two South Australian efforts since. He settled midfield and missed out narrowly behind Tommy Mach at Globe Derby last outing. MAGGACIS (4) has been in very good form with four victories at Mildura for the season. He finished off well in good final sectionals when second at Mildura last outing. GLITZY ALL OVER (10) is stepping up in class but she charged home to score over Only Once Bitten last week so she cannot be underestimated.
BACK: MISTER BOOMBASTIK (9) – 1.5 units (each way)
SELECTIONS: MISTER BOOMBASTIK (9), LOCHINVAR HAWK (8), MAGGACIS (4), GLITZY ALL OVER (10)
