Saturday night’s harness racing meeting in Wagga is being heralded as being one of the best that the sport has seen in the area with the Riverina Paceway set to play host to the Nutrien Standardbreds Classic Series finals.
The eight-race program boasts a mammoth $1million in prizemoney which has attracted some of the best juveniles currently racing in both the pacing and trotting disciplines.
The state-of-the-art Riverina Paceway has already hosted some of the industry’s best race meetings since first opening back in March 2019, but Saturday night’s line-up is being mooted as potentially the biggest event the Club and region has ever hosted.
A lot of hard work has gone into ensuring that the weekend will have it all.
Leading into the event, Wagga Club Racing Coordinator Laura Diebert stated that she could not be any more proud of the way in which the weekend has come together and is confident that a big crowd will be on hand to witness the high-quality racing and to enjoy the festivities that are planned around it.
“There has been so much effort channelled into this carnival from a number of different parties, so my fingers are crossed that it all goes to plan and without a hitch,” said Diebert.
“Mark and his associates from Nutrien have been great supporters of our Club for such a long time, and for both them and the Board and administration at Harness Racing New South Wales to have faith in our organisation to be able to prepare and host such a big night is pretty cool and quite humbling.
“Apart from our major sponsor Nutrien, we have some fantastic sponsors who have also supported the events, and we cannot thank them enough.”
Across the eight races, there are so many talented horses including the Brad Hewitt trained star three-year-old Hollywood Strip who will start at short odds to take out the final event.
All three states along the eastern seaboard will be represented with Grant Dixon, the trainer of Inter Dominion champion Leap To Fame having three runners engaged.
Racing on Saturday night will get underway at 4.44pm and racegoers are certainly in for a real treat with festivities aplenty.
The admittance-free event will also see one lucky patron take home a $5,000 cash prize for simply being in attendance.
