VENUE: Mildura

DATE: Friday, May 01, 2026

Race 1:

OVERVIEW: RAVISHING ROXY (1) showed very good gate speed to lead, took cover at the 1100m and tried hard for third behind Bet On Aces at her debut. She is still learning but will have benefited greatly from her debut performance and strikes a very suitable assignment. MELS NIGHT OUT (3) did well during the Mildura Cup Carnival with two placed efforts then followed with a fourth behind Tryagainfreddy, where he settled midfield after starting from the second row. He continues to improve with every start and should run a good race again. POSTER ART (4) gained a nice trail, loomed up to win in the straight and was outgunned by Don Crunch at Mildura on April 17. He couldn’t make ground in fast final sectionals last week and is worth another chance. DON KATTERZ (8) ran a sharper race when he finished off well for third at Mildura two starts ago then broke stride in the score up and lost his chance at Charlton. He has winning claims if he gets away safely under these conditions.

SELECTIONS: RAVISHING ROXY (1), MELS NIGHT OUT (3), POSTER ART (4), DON KATTERZ (8)

Race 2:

OVERVIEW: AVOCA BLUES (1) is a fast beginner and performs best when he is able to find the lead so he is perfectly drawn to suit his racing pattern. He attempted to lead throughout when second behind Royal Appointment in a slick mile rate of 1.57.0 at Mildura last week. WILLIAMS (7) has the perfect trailing draw behind AVOCA BLUES (1) and must be considered as one of the leading chances. He worked hard to find the lead and was run down over the final stages when second behind RONZEL MICKY (5) at Mildura last week. SHOTINTHEDARK (4) competed against strong opposition during the Mildura Cup Carnival and will find this to be easier. He has the worst draw out of the major chances but he is tough enough to be in the finish. RONZEL MICKY (5) continues to race in good form and should be finishing off strongly. UNITED (8) is a minor place chance from his trailing draw.

SELECTIONS: AVOCA BLUES (1), WILLIAMS (7), SHOTINTHEDARK (4), RONZEL MICKY (5)

Race 3:

OVERVIEW: MAXI ANGEL (3) has been performing quite nicely at the Shepparton trials and was placed behind Where It Began at his latest effort. He has since transferred to trainer Naomi Kerr and should give a forward showing first up. LOCHINVAR HAWK (5) met a couple of handy ones and finished off well after having a soft run on the markers when third at Globe Derby last outing. He is dropping back from taking on proven winners into a genuine Maiden here so he must be respected. LIVELY JOE (7) was able to work into second behind Little Wonder in a survival of the fittest at Mildura last week. He is drawn to gain an economical trip on the markers and is capable of running into a place again. SEASIDE SHOW (1) was placed at his only run at Mildura previously and is a place chance again from the pole position.

SELECTIONS: MAXI ANGEL (3), LOCHINVAR HAWK (5), LIVELY JOE (7), SEASIDE SHOW (1)

Race 4:

OVERVIEW: OHANA BY THE SEA (6) is returning from a Tasmanian campaign, where she scored in Hobart after leading throughout at her latest appearance. She has a tough draw to overcome but Alex Ashwood is driving her ahead of her two handy stable mates, which could be a good lead. LITTLE WONDER (5) was very aggressively driven and engaged in an early speed battle before finally working to the front at the 1200m mark when she kicked on bravely to win last week. This is a race of more depth but she is worth thought again. XLENDI STAR (2) finished off boldly from the second half of the field to win at his debut performance. He moves to the front line now and his trial form prior was sound so another bold showing is expected. The South Australian visitor HARLEM TOWN (7) also has claims from the perfect trailing draw and MISTER BOOMBASTIK (9) was very unlucky in the Mildura Guineas last outing.

BACK: OHANA BY THE SEA (6) – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: OHANA BY THE SEA (6), LITTLE WONDER (5), XLENDI STAR (2), HARLEM TOWN (7)

Race 5:

OVERVIEW: HESASTAR (8) is working back to his best form and follows out behind a fast beginner so he has winning claims in an open race. He worked home well for a distant second behind the in-form pacer Ears The Boss at Mildura last week. ROCKING WROXTON (9) performs best when he is close to the lead so being drawn on the second row is a disadvantage but he is racing too well to dismiss. He was held up for a run at a vital stage and worked through nicely for third behind Royal Saxon at Mildura seven days ago. GRENADE (12) finished unplaced in a race of similar standard last week but his form prior was sound having placed in four of his previous five attempts. He is a versatile pacer and should go well against this class. The South Australian trained pacer TWO WAY WONDER (11) boasts a strong record at Mildura and is capable of showing up without surprising.

SELECTIONS: HESASTAR (8), ROCKING WROXTON (9), GRENADE (12), TWO WAY WONDER (11)

Race 6:

OVERVIEW: G B BRAVE (7) is awkwardly drawn on the inside of the second line but he has been performing extremely well at Mildura with a win and four placed efforts from five attempts. He was held up for a run at a vital stage, gained a late inside run and finished strongly when an unlucky second behind Maggacis last week. APOLOGY ACCEPTED (1) raced out three horses wide for nearly a lap before gaining cover last week so he had excuses. He led out then took cover when second behind the handy type Royal Saxon at Mildura prior and he is drawn to receive a similar trip here. RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6) raced out three horses wide for the final lap when a brave second behind Ears The Boss two weeks ago then led out and took cover at his latest fourth. He is racing well against this class and deserves to break through for a win. OUR MASTER PLAY (2) hasn’t been at his best form recently but his latest run was encouraging and he has the ability to show up prominently from the good draw.

BACK: G B BRAVE (7) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: G B BRAVE (7), APOLOGY ACCEPTED (1), RUBBLEONTHEDOUBLE (6), OUR MASTER PLAY (2)

Race 7:

OVERVIEW: THEBUCKSONYOU (5) is a smart 4yo pacer, which is resuming since a second behind Avoca Blues in February. He is versatile and boasts a very consistent record so he will take beating if he is somewhere near his peak form. MAGGACIS (2) won three races in succession prior to the Mildura Cup Carnival, where he chased the very smart pacer The Art Of Success (won again since) in both the heat and the final of the Club Merbein Pace series. He bounced back into winning form last week so effectively he has won four races in succession outside of Carnival time at Mildura and he will prove hard to beat again. ROYAL SAXON (6) also competed in the Club Merbein series and finished second in both the heat and the final. He led throughout in handy time at his latest Mildura victory and should go well despite the wide draw. LORD VERDE (12) has been safely held at his past three attempts but will enjoy the return to Mildura racing and BRAVE ART (10) also has claims in a quality event.

BACK: THEBUCKSONYOU (5) – 1.5 units (each way)

SELECTIONS: THEBUCKSONYOU (5), MAGGACIS (2), ROYAL SAXON (6), LORD VERDE (12)

Race 8:

OVERVIEW: The battle between DALLAS MIKI (1) and SANTA CASA BEACH (2) for early supremacy will be the key to the event. Both horses prefer to race in the leading role and are racing well. SANTA CASA BEACH (2) is probably the faster of the two horses early and might be able to get across to the markers. He will take catching if he does find the top. MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (7) had no luck whatsoever and had excuses when unplaced last week ($1-70 fav). He was unplaced in the Mildura Cup prior but he did win a heat of that event and he is the class runner of the field. SHADOW CELT (8) finished fifth in the Mildura Cup last outing and won the Birchip Cup on March 08. He is a tough type and should run his usual honest race. DALLAS MIKI (1) recorded very quick mile rates in his victories at Mildura recently and he didn’t have much luck after commencing from the inside of the second line last week. He is a genuine staying type and should make his presence felt. CLASSIC LINE (4) has been racing in Country Cup events in South Australia and has been performing with distinction. He might need some luck early from his wide draw but he cannot be underestimated.

BACK: SANTA CASA BEACH – 2 units (win)

SELECTIONS: SANTA CASA BEACH (2), MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (7), SHADOW CELT (8), DALLAS MIKI (1)
