Globe Derby Park is set for a blockbuster night of racing this Saturday, headlined by the $16,000 SA BOTRA Kindergarten Series Final for two-year-olds.
The feature event promises a clash between the highly touted Victorian youngsters Spirit Of Kezza and Baystyle and a swag of local hopes headed up by South Aussie Star and Seabreeze Lad.
Spirit Of Kezza, an Art Major filly trained by Emma Stewart, won both her heats in dominant fashion at Globe Derby, while Baystyle followed a Melton success with a commanding win in the Mount Gambier heat.
South Aussie Star, who will start from the pole, led throughout to capture the heat at Port Pirie last Saturday.
The youngster has generated a great deal of interest in the local industry, with ‘South Aussie with Cosi’ media personality Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello taking a keen interest in the two year old’s journey. The locally owned and trained 2yo also qualifies for an additional $5,000 bonus in stakemoney provided by the SA Harness Racing Club and club patron Kevin Seymour, should it win a race at Globe Derby Park this year.
The $15,000 Kevin and Kay Seymour Adelaide Pacing Cup looks a wide open affair with at least half a dozen winning chances.
Two Wells horseman Ryan Hryhorec holds the key with three runners in the ultra-consistent Lochinvar Magic, the multiple cups winner Lord Zarias and Last Tango In Heaven.
Dhaulagiri, the runaway winner of the Port Pirie Pacing Cup at his last start, Heza Punk Rocker, a former Vicbred champion and Victor Harbor Pacing Cup winner, and Artillery, runner-up in this year’s Kapunda and Port Pirie Cups, all have strong winning chances.
The prizemoney has been subsidised by the SAHRC and Kevin Seymour.
The other feature on the night is the Fred Jones Trotters Cup, a discretionary handicap over 2230 metres from a standing start.
The well performed Victorian visitors El Conqueror (20 metres) and Gee Cee Calder (30 metres) will lock horns with a strong local contingent including Aldebaran Dexta (30 metres), Cadence Lane and the 40 metre backmarker Meadow Valley Star in the time-honoured feature.
The first of nine events will commence at 6.28 pm.
