Nic just loves it

After starting his career with the occasional drive, Temora reinsman Nic Horan has increasingly become a regular name at harness racing meetings throughout the Riverina.

The 26-year-old has been involved for quite some time, introduced to the sport by well-known couple Ray and Jane Walker.

But it is fair to say that Nic is a late bloomer to race driving, only taking up the craft three years ago.

Off the track he has been a popular character, but with experience his ability in the gig has grown and to date has driven twelve winners with leading trainers such as Jack Painting, David Micallef and Mick Towers all taking advantage of his aggressive style and five-point concession claim.

But Horan admits that his time in the sport would not have been possible if not for the wonderful support the Walker family has afforded him.

Group 1 winning trainer Ray Walker and wife Jane have been instrumental in Nic’s path to the racetrack, and the knowledge he has gained with horsemanship by working alongside them has been immense.

“I just love it,” said Horan.

“Everything about the sport, from working with the horses, driving, and just being at the trots each week and meeting up with the people is awesome.”

“I was pretty fortunate to have Ray and Jane guide me when I wanted to become involved, learning about the training side and improving my driving skills.”

“They have taught me everything I know, and I am so appreciative and grateful for how they took me under their wing.”

“My driving opportunities over the past season have increased mainly because of Ray and Jane, but outside drives are coming my way and I do my level best to make the most of them.”
